Team Nigeria is intensifying its preparation for the upcoming World Youth Scrabble Championship (WYSC), scheduled to take place from September 6 to 8 in Sri Lanka.
The team’s coach, Samuel Eromosele, stated this in a press release from the Nigeria Scrabble Federation’s Youth Wing media team, noting that two players, Joy Nwabuzor and Prestige Archibong, have registered for a tournament in Yenagoa. This event serves as a preparatory ground before traveling to Sri Lanka.

“Only Joy Nwabuzor and Prestige Archibong have registered for the tournament in Yenagoa. We are working intensely for the tournament ahead,” Coach Eromosele said.
Nwabuzor also stated that the players are not resting on their laurels but are preparing to dominate the competition.
“We have been dedicating ourselves to intense preparation, including group studies, quizzes, and individual practice sessions,” Joy said. “Our goal is to assert Nigeria’s dominance at the championship.”
Joy, who won the gold medal in the female category at the 2023 National Youth Games, said she has personally begun studying new words.
“I am continuously revising old study materials and learning new words every day,” she added. “Each day, I work on mastering the game further.”
The Nigeria Scrabble Federation (NSF) has selected a 12-player squad to represent the nation in Sri Lanka, comprising eight boys and four girls.
Notable players are; Prestige Archibong, the winner of the African Youth Scrabble Championship (WASC U-15); Ese Ejenakevbe; Sufyan Boluwatife; and nine-year-old scrabble prodigy Saviour Onazi. At 17, Boluwatife is the oldest member of the team, while Onazi is the youngest.
The female contingent includes Joy Nwabuzor, Hauwa Abdullahi, Sophia Ekeruche, and Michelle Ikekeregor.
