NPFL: Lobi Stars Maintain Top Spot, Shooting Stars  Win Away

Lobi Stars maintained their position at the summit of the Nigeria Premier Football League following a hard-earned 3-2 win against Rivers United at the Lafia City Stadium on Wednesday.

Samuel Tiza put Lobi Stars ahead on 10 minutes, while Ukeme Williams equalised for the visitors 14 minutes later.

The hosts regained their lead two minutes before the break with Alao Danbani converting from the spot.

Kumanga Suur added the third two minutes before the hour mark.

Liberian winger Mark Gibson reduced the deficit for Rivers United nine minutes from time.

Former champions Plateau United moved to second position on the log after a comprehensive 4-0 win over Gombe United.

Alexander Enejo scored the opener for the home team, with Silas Nenrot netting a hat-trick.

In Ikenne,Adams Olamilekan scored the winning goal in Remo Stars’ 1-0 victory over holders Enyimba.

Shooting Stars recorded their first away win of the season, edging past Doma United 1-0 at the Pantami Township Stadium.

Gideon Monday fired home the winning goal on the stroke of half time.

At the Awka City Stadium, Heartland ended their barren run following a 2-0 victory over Abia Warriors in the oriental derby.

Onyekachi Okafor put Heartland ahead in the 20th minute, while Ikechukwu Mgbemene added the second four minutes later.

In the clash of former champions, Kano Pillars and Rangers battled to a 1-1 draw at the Sani Abacha Stadium.

Pillars took the lead through Sani Mubarak on the half hour mark, while Collins Ugwueze equalised for Rangers in the 54th minute.

Akintunde Azeez scored the winning goal as Niger Tonardoes defeated Sporting Lagos 1-0 in Kaduna.

Sunshine Stars also defeated Katsina United 1-0 in Akure with Ibrahim Yusuf netting the decisive goal four minutes before the break.

Elsewhere, Kwara United pip Bayelsa United 1-0 in Ilorin.

Alao Mohammed’s 15th minute strike separated both teams on the night.
