NPFL: Lobi, Wikki, Katsina Bosses Leverage Abuja Unity Preseason Tourney

The major gladiators in the 2022 Abuja Unity Preseason Tournament have engaged in an exciting preview of it as the clock winds down to the October 23 kickoff, Completesports.com reports.

Former Nigeria international and Lobi Stars helmsman, Dominic Iorfa; Wikki Tourists coach, Kabiru Dogo, and Katsina United boss, Prince Abdussamad Badamasi, are already looking forward to the tournament beyond the prism of a preseason tournament.

The three major NPFL clubs have vowed to make maximum use of the weeklong 2022 Abuja Unity Preseason Tournament to prepare their teams adequately for the 2022/2023 domestic football season by using it to assess their new signings.

Iorfa, a former Technical Committee Chairman of NFF, while reaffirming his team’s participation said it would offer the opportunity to build a strong and virile Lobi Stars squad for the coming season.

Lobi Stars avoided relegation last term following the managerial expertise of the club’s CEO, Iorfa, who was drafted in on a rescue assignment when the club was heading for the drop.

“As far as we are concerned, the importance of the tournament can never be overemphasized, ” Iorfa said.

“The tournament is an avenue for to integrate and acclimatise both our newly recruited players as well as the old ones for better understanding.

“That’s essentially the reason we accepted to participate in the tournament.

“As a process, there is every need to exploit the best alternative that gears towards uniting the team together ahead of the new season”, Iorfa added.

Similarly, the Technical Adviser of Wikki Tourists FC Kabiru Dogo, says his side is ready to be part in the 2022 edition of the Abuja Preseason Unity Football Tournament.

“Wikki Tourists are set to compete in the competition and we’ve made necessary arrangements to that effect,” Dogo, a one-time ABS Ilorin FC coach stated.

“It’s is a welcome development as it will enable us to test especially our new players ahead of the coming season”.

Dogo is diplomatic while weighing his team’s chances in this year’s edition after crashing out in the semis the last term.

“Hopefully, we’ll surpass our last year’s performance,” he said.

Katsina United Chairman, Prince Abdussamad Badamasi believes that the tournament will give his team the opportunity to know how well they have gone in their recruitment drive and how the players can fit into the club’s new system.

“We want to see how far we have gone with our recruitment before the commencement of the new season in the country, ” the Chanji Boys boss said.

However, for the Proprietor of Doma FC, Alhaji Suleiman Umar, the Abuja Unity Preseason Tournament is an avenue for his men to test their might against some of the NPFL clubs before the commencement of the new season.

Doma FC were among the four Nigeria National League (NNL) clubs that secured promotion to the elite class after a strenuous campaign in the second-tier league last season.
