Team Bayelsa’s David Ekpeyong has booked a place in the second round of the men’s singles tennis event at the 2024 National Sports Festival.
The top seed defeated Morakinyo Ridwan Adewale of Oyo State in two straight sets, 4-0, 4-0 in under 30 minutes.
Ekpeyong will face Rubi Toba of Taraba State in the next round.
Toba defeated Benjamin Jeremiah of Kaduna 5-3, 4-0 earlier in the day.
Danjuma Lucky of Federal Capital Territory, FCT, also defeated Henry Nwosu of Imo State 4-0, 4-0.

He will do battle with Ondo’s Henry Aina, who beat Ekiti’s Abamu Mathew to seal a place in the next round.
Team Rivers’ Abua Candice will meet Mohammed Amir of Independent Junior Athletes, IJA, in the next round after overcoming Abdul Mohammed of Nasarawa State 4-2, 4-2.
Amir defeated Akwa Ibom’s Akwaowo Akwa, 4-2, 4-1.
Olabode Lawal of Team Lagos edged past Ehigiamusoe Endurance of Edo State 5-4(5), 4-2 to set up a clash with Abubakar Yusuf of FCT.
In the women’s category, Barakat Quadri of Delta State delivered a flawless performance, thrashing Iornumun Mary of Benue 4-0, 4-0 to book a second-round showdown with Rebecca Ekpeyong (Bayelsa) of Team Bayelsa.
