OFFICIAL: Obi Signs Two-Year Deal With Serie B Club Reggina

Former Nigeria international Joel Obi has departed Salernitana for Serie B club Reggina on a two-year contract.

Reggina, currently handled by former Italy and AC Milan striker Filippo Inzaghi, announced Obi’s signing on their website on Wednesday.

“Reggina 1914 announces that it has reached an agreement for the right to sports performance of the footballer Joel Obi .

“The midfielder, born in 1991, moves to the shores of the Strait signing a two-year contract.

“To Joel a warm welcome to the amaranth family.“

Obi made his Serie A debut at Inter Milan on 17 October 2010 against Cagliari when he replaced Philippe Coutinho in the 66th minute. The game ended 1–0 with a goal from Samuel Eto’o.

On 2 September 2013, Obi was loaned to Parma, in an away match against Catania, substituting Marco Parolo. After only eight appearances he returned to Inter.

Obi made his international debut for Nigeria on 9 February 2011 in a friendly game with Sierra Leone in Lagos.

He started the next 11 games in a row for the Eagles before getting injured near the end of 2012.

He was named in the Eagles squad to the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia but did not feature in any of the team’s group games.
