Onazi Joins Danish Club SönderjyskE

Nigeria midfielder Ogenyo Onazi has joined Danish Super Liga club SonderjyskE on a one-year contract, reports Completesports.com.

SonderjyskE have the option to extend the contract for two more seasons.

The 27-year-old linked up with the club as a free agent after severing links with Turkish Super Lig outfit Denizilspor earlier in the summer over unpaid wages.

“I am very happy to have signed here in SønderjyskE, and I am grateful that the club has given me this opportunity. I hope I can make a difference and my ambition is to help the team finish as high as possible in the table,”Onazi told the club’s official website.

“I am a player who likes to take responsibility and work hard for things, and I will do the same here in SønderjyskE. I am very dedicated to this task and I look forward to playing for the club”

Sports director Hans Jørgen Haysen is pleased that SønderjyskE have been able to attract a quality player like Onazi to the club.

“He is a player with an insane CV, and he has played lots of matches in Serie A and in the Turkish league as well as a lot of national matches. When he is standing here today, it is due to the injury that put a dent in the wheel for him in 2019, and that is our luck, because otherwise we would not have been close to picking up a player with that CV.

“We believe that we can get him back on track, but we are also aware that it may take a few weeks before he is back at full speed for 90 minutes. He has been without a club in recent months, so now he must have beaten his form in training and have some ball in his legs again, but fortunately we have a skilled staff that can help him on the right path and we believe he will be a big win for us – not least in the slightly longer run.

” He is a central midfielder who has an eerie drive, he is good on the ball and he can cover a large area. We have been looking for a midfielder who has different prerequisites than those we already have, and it has been crucial that we have brought something in here at the end of the transfer window.”

  • I thought I read somewhere that he signed for crotone in serie A. Hmmm, well he has a club now, but I don’t think he will be getting a call up to the Super eagles any time soon.
The coach seems ok with the players in his position.

Sonder-wetin…?! How manage…? First it was Red Star Belgrade we were told he signed for, latter Crotone, now Sonderjyske. Is this the end of the road for the one @Deo used to call Ogenyi ‘angry wasp’ Onazi…?

The mikel that just moved from liverool to bayern or the one we know that moved from chelsea to china, china to championship and from championship to turkey from turkey back to championship. The one that played two wcup without a goal nor an assist or even a semi assist. Go and see onazi youtubehighlight in turkey and compare it to mikels highlight in thesame team. You will answer for urself. Mikelo modric obi lol. Onazi dictate midfield while obi is mainly use to keep possession with his usual side mirror passes

Hahahaha… na onazi play 2 world cups win golden boot for both of them abi….LMAO…? Confed cup nko…? Olympics nko…? Why Siasia choose Mikel for Olympics….why he no carry Onzai wey sabi dictate passes….LMAO. So na youtube you see onazi dey dictate passes and mikel dey hold possession…LOLZ….no wonder mikel comot trabzonspor fans begin call for the head of the club president say na him make dem lose league title, but onazi comot nobody even ask where e dey…! 11 years and 8 managers naim mikel spend for chelsea before e go earn money for china…..abeg remind us how many years onazi spend for Lazio before e become surplus to requirement…..remind us how many years e spend for trabzon before e become surplus to requirment….how many for Denilzispor. I no go like remind you say at the age of 27 Mikel nor dey look for club up and down from Red star to crotone to sojabag…abi wetin b this team sef.
For chelsea fans name Mikel d catalyst…for Middleborough them name am African Zidane….for Trabzonspor dem say na enigma…..for Stoke City O’Neil nor dey taya to dey praise mikel at 33 and still going strong. Abeg remind us wetin fans dey call Onazi for all the clubs wia e play…?

@Drey. You are here making mockery of a player who injury has not been kind to. Guy football is just like regular life… It’s normal to have moment of dip. He only signed a year contract with them and I am sure it’s just to keep him fit. Hopefully if things go well for him Denmark will only be a transient point. Make you no the laugh person for issues for life… If Crotone will pay him peanuts you expect him to remain there? If Mikel was still playing at 33yrs for Nigeria then nothing stops Onazi doing same because he is still 27yrs such that even Balogun who is still playing is older… The fact of the matter is that he will always be an option for Super Eagles in midfield and he has not retired from Super Eagles… the jostle for positions enroute to 2021 Afcon and 2022 World Cup is still wide open. Nobody has an automatic shirt yet…

Oga…Its not Onazi I am mocking…far from it. Its those who claim he is better than Mikel and their concocted stories, but are struggling to even convince themselves about it that I am mocking. As usual, i’m just laying out the facts bare for all to see and judge. Hate mikel all you like, the fact remains that he played at the top level till he was 30 and is now just playing for the money and nothing else….even at that, everywhere he goes….dem still dey bow for am. Mikel’s class is permanent.
Onazi is a Nigerian player and I appreciate him same way I appreciate every Nigerian out there putting our name on the global map. He has had his share of injuries, so as Mikel also had his, but even as a DM, club and National team wise, Onazi cannot lace Mikel’s boots. I wish him quick recovery and hope he can get his career back on track ASAP, but the earlier Onazi’s special fans start looking beyond seeing him in the SE again, the better….unless maybe if Rohr is sacked before 2022 WC. But if any of them has any probability of returning to the SE…..its definitely Mikel.

Hey hey hey mr fat short boy is now in the danish league at supposedly 27? Could never be my boy

      • JimmyBall 4 years ago

… @Chinenye is it not the same Danish League that Frank Onyeka and last year Paul Onuachu were invited from? Is it not the Danish league that Uche Okechukwu cut his teeth with Brondby or the same Danish league that also features FC Copenhagen? Atleast it’s still better than Saudi Arabia where we still have our Super Eagles captain playing… Life na swing no the laugh person wey him case go south a bit… He has sacrificed for Nigeria all we need is offer prayers for him to stay injury free and get his career back on track… Issues for career no sabi age… If the likes of Kelechi Nwakali, chidera Eze and Musa Yahaya had similar setbacks before finding their way now… Know that life is Grace of God! One love..

  • But but but but; the CROTONE stuff nkor?

I thought he was to win best DM in serieA?
    Hahahahaha….
Chai…. This life no just balance at aaaaaaall….

A crotone best DM to be (according to his ass leakers) moving to danish league…. Wonders shall never end.

His “ass leakers” are hiding bcos of shame….

The person u are even hyping does not even recorgnise u…..

    Lubbish…

  • Actually, I think Mikel and Onazi complemented each other well in 2014 season for Nigeria. It is quite a shame to read that they fell out in the following years but that is for them to sort out as men (if the story is true).

Onazi needs to be playing football so as to get his career back on track. If going to Scandinavia offers him this lifeline, then so be it.

I was very hopeful when I heard that he was moving to Crotone in Serie A but we all now know that that move eventually fell through, sadly.

Onazi’s interpretation of the centre midfield position and his application were top notch. He did a lot of the dirty work with poise and grace.

But injuries, dramatic loss of form and fitness issues all conspired to tame what was once a hugely promising career.

Dr Drey has such long memory to recall that I once referred to Onazi as “angry wasp”. Even I struggle to recall that however, Onazi needs anger and hunger at this junction of his fast fading career.

‘Anger’ at where he is now against where he really ought to be and renewed ‘hunger’ to navigate him back to a decent level of football.

I remember back then when England’s Michael Owen was struggling in club football after a blistering start to his international career (at the 1998 World Cup), a lot of pundits said it was all in his head.

If he reaches deep enough inside himself, he could re-discover the long-lost Michael Owen (and not the one that had been slowed down because of injuries and fitness issues).

Onazi should do the same. A route back to the Super Eagles seems like him trying to build a castle in the air at the moment.

But he should first of all sort out his club career, then take it from there; one step at a time.

    Good luck Onazi!

  • @ least…the Jersey of the club fine.

The stadium too looks good. That stadium does not look any bigger than Dan Anyian stadium or Enyimba stadium or Agege stadium or any of our NPFL stadia, but just look at the packaging, look at the lush green and even pitch. Even if you nor too sabi play football, once you dey this kind environment football go gree you play. Watching a match in it on TV will make for a pleasing watch.
I pray we get there someday….talking about out local league.
