Osimhen, Teammates Worry As Covid-19 Forces Two Players Out Of Juventus – Napoli Clash

Victor Osimhen and Napoli teammates, alongside coaching staff, could be facing the threat of the Covid-19 pandemic after midfielders; Piotr Zielinski, Eljif Elmas and a non-playing staff tested positive for the virus, Completesports.com reports.

According to a report on Footballitalia.com, Napoli will be without Piotr Zielinski and Elmas against Juventus on Sunday after the two midfielders tested positive for coronavirus.

The club announced on Friday that Zielinski and staff member, Giandomenico Costi were found to have contracted Covid-19 following Thursday’s round of testing, but confirmed hours later that Elmas’ test had also returned positive.

Poland international, Zielinski, scored one goal and set up another in last weekend’s 6-0 thrashing of Genoa who confirmed after the game they had 14 positive coronavirus cases. North Macedonia international, Elmas, replaced Lorenzo Insigne in the 23rd minute of the match.

Osimhen was impressive as he featured in the entire duration of that 6-0 win against Genoa. The Nigeria international provided Zielinski with an assist to net the second goal.

Genoa’s meeting with Torino which was scheduled for Saturday was called off by Lega Serie A on Thursday.

On Friday, Genoa announced that two more players and another staff member had tested positive and they had cancelled all activity at their training base until Monday.

Napoli could not get their fixture with Juventus postponed despite their scary covid-19 situation. According to Footballitalia.com, the Italian top flight league ruling body, Lega Serie A, released a statement on Friday confirming that Juventus versus Napoli must go on.

“The Lega Serie A confirms that the game Juventus v Napoli for Serie A Week 3 is still planned to kick off on October 4 at 20.45,” the report quoted the Legal Serie A statement.

According to the report, “The Serie A and UEFA protocols state that as long as a team has 13 players, including at least one goalkeeper, the match can go ahead.”

Napoli who sit top of Serie A after scoring eight goals without conceding in their opening two matches were billed to undergo another round of tests before travelling to Turin.
