  • The first time he coached in Africa he won the league title. I take that as a premonition of good things to come for Nigeria.

At least no one can say Peseiro doesn’t have pedigree.

@deo, I have a feeling this man will perform better than expected (just like Ladan Bosso did recently).

I doubted him at the begining, but I am begining to see that he is passionate about the job and believes that he can achieve great things with our Super Eagles. With such a mindset, he should be able to surmount all the challenges that comes with working under an unpredictable NFF.

      Welcome on board Mr. Paseiro!

Agreed. Many foreign coaches are happy to take on the onerous task of coaching the SE because our boys are very enterprising players. They know they can win cups, with hard work/luck. And have you noticed he came with 3 assistants? What of their alawi? From his pocket, just like Oga Rohr? Maybe we have Oga Rohr to thank. He set the pace.

If so Nigeria is a very lucky country.

The passion he exhibits makes me throw my support for him. Good luck Mr Jose!

Words of appreciation go to the CSN group for this in-depth reportage. @Okosun Edokpaire a new entrant commenter only recently requested for photos, now we have one. Hopefully, we will have the benefit of seeing more photos of the coach with the lads in training. My only concern is, what will be the place of coach Finidi George now that coach Peseiro is armed with Acacio and Hugo as assistant coach. Quite honestly, I would like the media to expatiate on thatt. In all though, Goodluck is for Nigeria.

That means the man hasn’t even been to Nigeria. I hope this is not another Rohr that will be flying from Holland through Germany to match location, picking only ready made foreign based. The NFF must ensure that the call to have local league players dominate the process is sacrosanct. Well, let us see how much engagement coach Pese is going to offer the 8 local players in the games. Cheers, Super Eagles.

    • The home based players should prove their mettle first especially in CAF Club competitions. I will always stand on this point when it has to do with the selection of home based players.

The likes of Iroha,Uche Okechukwu,Benedict Ugwu,Moses Kpakor were well known on the African continent. How many of these local players are known in Africa?
What has Eguavoen achieved as a player and coach makes him qualified to become NFF president? Eguavoen that was looking for players like the ’94 set of SE to execute matches of 2022.Clearly he has not worked on himself. He should not just think of it!He doesn’t have it.Period!!!

Coach Pese, that’s obviously a new coinage. The issue you raised that really captured my fancy is about our domestic league players. Nigerians will later thank former coach Austine Eguavoen for opening the floodgate for league players to be coopted into the national team with ease. He started that with invitations extended to Ndah and Noble, now we have 8 league players in the fold. But with this team of foreign assistant coaches Pese has come with, I hope the gains of the NFF Technical Director isn’t going to be eroded mostly as it affects local coach Finidi George who also has the Director’s footprint.

  • Probably nobody has bothered to look at that direction. I put it to you, @Friday that I was taken aback and almost went beserk when it was announced that Peseiro invited Acacio and Hugo to assist him with the S.E job. We will just wait but I tell you the nff had already decided to grow our local league which includes the players are coaches. I wish the eagles come top in the games. God bless Nigeria.

Thank you Omon Michael for the acknowledgement. However, I am not a new entrant commentator. Myself and few others I can barely read here today started this forum in those days. I don’t know if you ever saw kickoffnigeria sports news. The unarguable fact is that I have been with the csn since 1995 but was AWOL for a few years, lol!
It is good to be here again. I must say I sincerely bank on the new coach to do wonders with the present crop of Super Eagles. I will come up with a write-up the moment his 1st eleven list is out. Cheers!

Nigerians are saying Eguavoen, Amuneke and others engineered the involvement of domestic players in the national team and need to be appluaded. Clearly, the fans are now seeing Eguavoen’s foresighted plans for the Super Eagles though some fans were initially in a hurry for more results. What is not in doubt is, the former coach left a big vacuum for coach Peseiro to fill. Amongst many, Eguavoen within a short stint with took the Super Eagles from 36th position to 30th in FIFA ranking. He also played 7 matches losing only once in the process. These are tall challenges that Peseiro needs to surmount. I can’t wait to see the Eagles on number 5, FIFA. Good luck Eagles.

    • Dr Banks 2 years ago

Shut up your mouth with this your Eguavoen rhetorics …………………..he was simply a failure and an unimaginable disaster to Nigerian football. He has been failing us since 2003 and I don’t understand why your guys will fall to recognise that he is a total failure even as a footballer (remember Italy game at USA ’94).

A good coach is not judged by how many losses but according to the collective achievements on mandate. He gave us the worst ever AFCON experience and failed to qualify at the expense of a very weak Ghana team………….this is a phenomenal failure my brother. Remember that he was also involved in the failure to qualify for 2006 WC and the 2003 U-17 team that he couldn’t go past group stages with was used in 2005 by Siasia to give us Silver against Messi’s Argentina

So the earlier you get it into your skull that Eguavoen never had any business coaching Nigeria or even be involved in any capacity the better for your sanity.

      • Golden Child 2 years ago

Lol… @Dr Banks, it might be Eguavoen making that comment as @Moses or someone who benefits from him. There is no need to pull the wool over our eyes, let Eguavoen be. I am not even comfortable with him as Technical Director, let alone Head Coach. What i find laughable is “the former coach left a big vacuum for coach Peseiro to fill” comment. ROTFL…. Let us call a spade a spade, the man failed woefully and has no business being around the perimeter of the NFF office, let alone occupying a key position there. I would not go as far as labelling a failure but he clearly failed in the assignments delegated to him.

      • Luke Omanike 2 years ago

@Dr Banks, be responsible when expressing your views otherwise everyone thinks you are quarrelling with yourself.

Unfortunately you have no sense to know that it is even pitiable for you to hide behind your keypad and start sounding abusive just to air an infantile opinion, that’s an act of cowardice. Or is it in your DNA to always be cowards?

Coach Peseiro hits the Super Eagles camp with foreign assistants is the heading of this writeup. @Moses from close observation is concerned on the need to retain the Eguavoen format of having local players and coaches play significant role in the national team as against consortium of foreign coaches. That is commendable by every discerning minds and it will actually be good to call for clarifications going forward.

Don’t forget Eguavoen was instrumental to the inclusion of both the local players and coaches to the national team as it were. This is even besides having being a coach at both local and international levels.

It is on record he orchestrated the appointments of Amuneke who served under him as an assistant coach and now assistant coach Finidi presently serving under coach Peseiro. These are good pointers to the technical director of the NFF.

I’m of the view that sports journalists are certain to play their roles in entrenching the Eguaveon phenomenal in having a vibrant domestic league with invitations being sent to the league players as a way of motivating them. This is what @Moses posited.

        • What record are you talking about? Are they the first set of indigenous people to handle the national team? The local coaches should prove their mettle first before staking a claim for the SE coach. Amodu shuaibu was well known in Africa. He coached BCC Lions of Gboko and they played several times in the finals of CAF Club competition. He qualified Nigeria twice to play in the world cup. Eguavoen on the other hand has NOTHING to show even as a coach yet you people continue to praise him.He has nothing to offer. If a coach or player is good it will be evident.

        • Amodu also coached 3SC and they also played in the final of a CAF Club competition. Each you time you raise up the idea of a local coach handling the SE, ask yourself what have they achieved as coaches wherever they have coached

          • Gabriel 2 years ago

You are only beating about the bus. That guy reeled out Austin Eguavoen’s qualities with all clarity. You, tell the forum with probable facts who among the living ex players is as qualified as Eguavoen. Amodu played his part and may his soul rest in peace, Amen. That shouldn’t be too much for your, I think.

        • Ndubest 2 years ago

Let your home based prove themselves first in club football. That is a simple assignment know this and know peace.

    • I think some persons here are paid to do PR for Eguavoen or pushing hard his ambition to become NFF president because I really do not understand this rubbish talk and propaganda about him. Is it not the same Eguavoen that couldn’t beat Ghana in two legs and his team could only manage to score a goal from the penalty spot? Abeg make una no vex me oh!

      • Gabriel 2 years ago

I know you have no sense to know that was Francis Uzoho’s error. Quite frankly, you either win, draw or lose in football is the beauty of the game. Italian FA retained coach Roberto Mancini despite losing the World Cup ticket to a lowly rated North Mecedonia national team. That’s football.

        • Clearly you are the stupid one here to blame our inability to qualify for the world on a Goalkeeper’s error. So Eguavoen’s team could not defeat a mediocre Ghanaian team even with the error? Go on with the propaganda! Your agenda will be revealed soon. Bunch of clowns

  • pompei 2 years ago

Ok now, why not let us kuku make SE the exclusive preserve of the home-based players?
SE has now become the personal property of home-based players, abi? Orisirisi!
As if home-based today will not japa tomorow?
All these home-based talk is nonsense. TOTAL NONSENSE!
The condition for inviting players to the SE is not where they’re playing their football, but whether they are the best we have at that time. If our best players are all home-based, then we have a sound argument for inviting home-based players. But when we have players abroad who are clearly better, what is the rationale for forcing the issue to invite inferior talents? Only someone with a hidden agenda looking to profit financially from the use of home-based players will continue to insist on home-based players.
People should not use their greed and selfishness to bring unnecessary confusion.
We want only the best players in the SE. We don’t care where they are located, as long as they are the best!!!

  • Taiju 2 years ago

Eguavoen could one day be NFF president or appointed Minister of Sports and Youth development, he earns it and in fact, it is the truth going by merit, though some few are still bitter over Uzoho and Moses Simon’s errors of old. The people making noise here and in other places should tell us what their noise has brought besides always losing or running away to ivory coast. That said, I would like Peseiro to retain his backroom staff while ensuring that the local inputs are harnessed. And for a future prospect, the Football Federation must ensure there are TV hosting rights agreement that would enable private and public enterprises or individuals pick up the bill and management of televising SE matches to the view pleasure of fans while making their returns on investment. God bless Nigerians!

  • Alphonsus Gbefumu 2 years ago

The TV hosting right that you mentioned is an area the NFF needs to unravel in areas of commercial, broadcasting, and logistics problems. Nigerians should be able to watch matches concerning the Eagles from their homes. Measures should also be taken to solve the problems related to the lighting or high-speed internet to serve as a backup should the television broadcast fail. The NFF is trying in that regards but what we often see on its facebook page as match broadcast should be improved upon. However, the TV and media right is still a problem that the directors of the NFF should solve once and for all. Peseiro is welcomed with his team of assistants.

  • pompei 2 years ago

Some mischievous, frivolous characters keep coming to this forum to aggressively promote mediocrity.
They want OUR OWN to come back as SE coach, they are even suggesting that he should be the next NFF president. They are adamant that the SE should consist mainly of home-based players, as if home-based will not become foreign-based eventually. These charlatans are out here creating confusion with all their might.
They can best be described with 3 words:
    ENEMIES OF PROGRESS.
How can a house that is divided stand? We are all Nigerians, yet some Nigerians have no interest in progress. They are just out to satisfy selfish whims.
I say it again. If they like, they should make the SE to be a team for only home-based players.
Na here we dey. We go dey look dem.

    • Moses 2 years ago

Let’s face the truth. Among former super eagles players who is more qualified than Augustine Eguavoen for the post of NFF president? Having in mind that Eguavoen have coached both local and international teams besides his administrative experience in the NFF. I wont entertain deviation.

      • Tristan 2 years ago

You must be a Ghanaian, determined to ruin Nigerian football for the foreseeable future. That’s why you keep promoting Eguadiola.

        • Gabriel 2 years ago

You would do well to answer his question than appealing to emotion. Or are you a coward?

    • You can say that again. This sudden influx of naysayers is alarming. All of a sudden, Eguavoen is the best thing that happened to us after slice bread. I just can understand these sentiments

Sorry ooo mr confusionist which international team did your failure Eguavoen coached?
I don’t know how much you were paid for this PR stunt or whose interest you’re serving, but like someone said up there you are your likes are enemy’s of progress. My thinking is that with the infiltration of some names (Islamic) on all the national teams, the north in their usual selfish ways wants to bury our football the same way they have infiltrated our political space to destroy our national progress.

      • Chailes T. 2 years ago

Idiot the word North is already giving you goose pimples. Moses doesn’t even look like a Northern name. Moses only wanted to know if there is any ex-player that is more qualified than Eguavoen for the position of the NFF presidency. We need to look into his profile.

    • Moses 2 years ago

Error… Eguavoen coached not ‘have coached’.

    • What makes you think that Eguavoen is qualified to head the NFF? Someone that invites undeserving players to camp just to please people is worthy of being your own NFF president? No administrative knowledge,he must watch Dessers live match before he invites him to camp eehn,he did not even know that Ghana has changed formation in the second half of the world cup qualified in Abuja. My guy, objectivity is far from you

Eguavoen and Complete Sports are bent on destroying Nigeria football with some sponsored trash commentators on this page. All of a sudden it’s Eguavoen’s news from the Blue. What is the problem with Nigerians? If this is the new topic why can’t we talk about Mike Emenalo who’s more qualified than the amateur Eguavoen?

C’mon stop flattery. Emenalo or whatever his name is has no African coaching knowledge. Why not Emmanuel Amuneke or Amokachi?
