Pochettino Once Again Hints At Squad Issues As Spurs Crash Out

Mauricio Pochettino has again admitted all is not well within his Tottenham squad following a humiliating defeat against Colchester United.

Spurs’ season continues to go from bad to worse after they were dumped out of the Carabao Cup at the third round stage when losing 4-3 on penalties against the League Two side.

Pochettino has previously hinted of unrest within his squad, but all appeared to have settled down after the closure of the transfer window.

However, following the shock exit on Tuesday night, Pochettino repeated his previous suggestion, admitting all is not rosy in the Lilywhites’ garden. “When you have an unsettled squad always it’s difficult and you lose time, then you need time to recover the time you lose,” he said.

“That’s where we are. Maybe our performances are good but you need this extra, which is mental, connection. It’s energy to be all together, not to have different agendas in the squad. “We are in a period where it’s a bit tough for us but we keep working to find a solution. When this type of thing happens it’s about staying clear and fresh and calm. We’re trying to find solutions and we only need time.”

Talk of ‘different agendas’ in the squad will be a huge worry for Spurs supporters with some taking to social media to claim the squad that Pochettino built is now crumbling around him.

After 90 goalless minutes, the U’s took another Premier League scalp as Tom Lapslie hit the winning spot-kick after Christian Eriksen and Lucas Moura missed in the shootout.

Speaking afterwards, Pochettino admitted his side were “disappointed” by their lack of cutting edge in the final third. Moreover, he admitted they were “not aggressive” enough when it came to punishing their opposition.
