Premier League: Iheanacho Struggles, Ndidi Benched As Leicester Fall To Arsenal

Premier League: Iheanacho Struggles, Ndidi Benched As Leicester Fall To Arsenal

Kelechi Iheanacho failed to make much impact as Leicester City suffered a 2-0 defeat to Arsenal at the King Power Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Iheanacho started the game and was replaced by Ademola Lookman after the break.

The 25-year-old has scored once in 10 league appearances for the Foxes this season.

His international teammate Wilfred Ndidi was an unused substitute in the encounter.

Ndidi last featured for Brendan’s Rodgers’ side in the 2-2 home draw against Burnley early this month as a result of the harmstring injury he picked up in the game.

The midfielder has appeared in six league games in the current campaign.

Gabriel Magalhaes opened scoring for Arsenal on five minutes following an assist from Bukayo Saka.

Emile Smith Rowe added the second goal in the 18th minute.

This should serve as eye opener to Coach Rohr and his team. Nov. 11 Lone Stars of Liberia vs the Super Eagles is something the coaching crew must be serious about. Iheanacho with due respect is nothing but a flash in the pan. His off days are far more than the few times he provides assist. I miss Ndidi but it is now doubtful if he will be available for the Lone Stars match due to the nagging injury.

    • Diran 2 years ago

This is the reason we should plead with Odion Ighalo to come back to the Super Eagles. His wealth of experience is actually needed now! A word is enough for the wise. Thanks

      • Chinenye 2 years ago

Go and plead with him not all of us. Some of us don’t want to see a player from alshabab twerking with his oversized bum bum on the pitch for us. Ighalo is over 40 years by real age let go take a several seat back

    • If ighalo score today I. Saudi den he shud be invited ok

  • Kenny 2 years ago

Imagine, only one goal in 10 appearances in this season, and that is a supposed striker that is expected to play active role in a team. Coach Rogers is a big mugu.

    • Diran 2 years ago

This is why we need an experienced Odion Ighalo back in Super Eagles. His combination with Oshimen and Chukwueze in attack will be good for the team. Thanks

    • @Kenny so your Ighalo was rolling out Goals in every game when he was at Watford right.

Also what sort of pressure was he under at Watford for a starting place. I can guarantee you that Watford only had Ighalo and Troy Deeney to call upon those days. So their place in the starting XI was never really in threat.

Iheanacho is playing in Leicester Team with so much depth and knows its a team where by every touch every decision has to be incisive or else the guy on the bench will be called up. The last game against Brentford Vardy was hauled off at Half Time too. This is a Top 6 team in England. The Competion for places in top 6 teams,is way higher than a mid table or Bottom Table team and that creates extreme pressures for players in game.

When I always talk about understanding the dynamics of Football thats one of the dynamics of Football I am referring to.

    • @Kenny and @Diran a player playing in a top 6 team in England competing for places with International players like Vardy, Lookman, Daka and Harvey Barnes and who through all this still gets the nod in a big game against Arsenal over all the names meaning he is working hard in training and is only 24 years old. This type of player is better to call upon in big tournament like World Cup than, a 34 year old player who has lost alot of speed and is playing in a finished league like the Saudi Arabian one for Money..

Unless you two are secretly wishing That Kelechi Iheanacho should fail, Are you??

  • Angela Pinnick 2 years ago

Pinnick and Rohr are the reason why Iheanacho can’t score and he must be invited to warm SE bench. Nonsense!

    • @Angela Pinnick So you are here to defend your Uncle Abi!!!, you better tell him we don’t want his old used legs that he is collecting bribe from, in the team again

  • Nkano 2 years ago

You have a point there. It’s possible the coach fell for it.

  • Stanley 2 years ago

Wao Wao Wao! Just a goal in 10 games? It can only be poor delivery.

    • Abdul 2 years ago

Wait o….@Kenny and Stanley, who una dey blame….abeg I no get?

      • Kenny 2 years ago

Sorry o! Na me dem dey blame o!…A fluke as your most important striker.

    • Raphael Arimonde 2 years ago

Iheanacho is a disgrace to whoever knows him. To imagine that I placed a bet on that match. In short, his wife must tell him to run away from the super eagles, otherwise???

      • Only a fool places a bet on a team he or she has sentiments attached to. I am glad you lost your money next time go and bet on another team. It is also your type that places bets on Super Eagle matches. Don’t you see other teams to bet on?? That means the team/players progress is not your concern all you care about is your capital gain. Nigeria In nutshell.

  • Gary Ebukun 2 years ago

Iheanacho’s problem is, he likes football but football does not like him. While some are players by nature, others struggle to play the round leather.

  • Sanni 2 years ago

Kai, it is possible his only goal in many matches is from penalty, I don’t know. While some are scoring without taking penalties, see the difference yet? Iheanacho must be told there is no room for liability in SE and besides, we can’t afford to joke with AFCON.

    • Diran 2 years ago

This is why I strongly believe Odion Ighalo should be pleaded with and brought back to Super Eagles. Nigeria still needs his wealth of experience and striking abilities to qualify for the next world cup and play at the next AFCON. Thanks

  • pompei 2 years ago

Is this not the same Iheanacho that scored the 2 goals we used to beat Liberia in September?
There is no need to badmouth the lad. If he is off form, Rohr should not select him for our next matches, but should continue to monitor him. No need for character assassination, just because a footballer had a poor outing!

  • Lawrence 2 years ago

Why did the press hid this important info ever since? So he had scored just one goal in ten appearances and Coach Yusuf and Rohr are there dumbfounded, abi? Tell the ineffectual to give room to consistent and experienced strikers. It is not good, is bad.

    • Diran 2 years ago

Please bring Odion Ighalo back for Liberia and Cape Verde matches. His experience is needed to combine with Oshimen and Awoniyi.

      Thanks

  • I don’t know why some Nigerians are like this. Abeg what is Iheanacho fault in that match? Must he be scoring or assisting in every match? Or is he the only striker in Leicester, what about Vardy,Tieleman,Daka,Barnas etc? why can’t they score too? Isn’t it he same Iheanacho who assisted last weekend. Even your Oshimen,Awoniyi is not scoring in every match. Iheanacho is a Nigerian and he will always be in SE team whenever the coach deem it fit so you continue to wail as you like. Haba! You guys suck

    • @tayo they are looking for excuses to bring back midiocre players….. they are looking for excuses to drag SE backwards.

      • SeniorBoy 2 years ago

Tribalist, have you succeeded in your own excuse? Iheanacho has never been a complete baller, not saying he isn’t the occasional type. Even when invited, he will still not perform beyond expectation.

        • @ seniorboy…if any Nigerian player is playing club football in a top5 league then that player has earned my support and they are from my tribe ok?….. now back off BOY and run along.

      • Lawrence 2 years ago

Excuse ko, excuse ni. Is the the excuse that’s holding his legs from scoring goals as a would be striker? One goal in as many as 10 appearances tells a whole lot of poor performance. Football does not like Iheanacho or is there anything he wants? Is playing for the SE the end of life? Come on let’s have a better chat.

    • @tayo leave them they are searching for an excuse to bring back their grandpapa Ighalo forming the excuse of experience. I mean instead of the looking at the positives, the experience he gained from such a match against such an opponent. They were claiming he is warming the bench in Leicester City only to find out he is a starter and they were not happy for him. So the set out to wish bad on him and alas, their combined bad wishes for the boys progress affected his game yesterday they will think I am mad for making that statement. Let them keep wishing our key players bad luck when World Cup is around the corner. When I told you Nigerians can be Evil. This is it.

      • Kenny 2 years ago

Hahaha, Christiana Ronaldo a 36 years old will then be your great grand papa. Common stop playing to the gallery.bRoger Miller, the cameroonian was in his 40s when he shock the World with his scintillating scoring skills. Your Iheanacho is only 22 abi? Tell him to score goals. One goal in ten appearances for a striker is outright nonsense. There is nothing to pad there.

      • @iwunze I support you on this. This ighalo project for will end in disaster. So people can begin to accuse iheanacho on this forum again. You are talking about one what about his goal involvement – his assists. Interesting Nigerians can be funny.

  • Your Awoniyi came in against CAR and missed an open goal that could have given us all the 3 points in the match. As you guys were shouting Awoniyi this Awoniyi that before he was eventually invited one would have thought he will score hat tricks in his debut but alas it was a missed sitter.Even Oshimen how many goals has he score in this qualifier? This same Iheanacho got us 2 goals which is still the highest scored by any Nigeria players in the qualifier so far. So what made you to think Awoniyi will score goals like he is scoring in his club? No disrespect to both Awoniyi and Oshimen but u guys wahala too much all these players are needed and they will all be useful at one point or the other.

  • Gritty 2 years ago

#tayo, don’t mind all those sinister enemies of progress!!! Iheanacho has scored 3 goals (agst; Millwall, Crystal palace, community shield) and 5 assists (agst; Napoli, Burnley, Man United, Spartak Moscow) in all competitions this nascent season. Iheanacho scored a WCQ brace against Liberia in Lagos. Iheanacho is still the best support striker for the SE at d moment (Superb in; Through balls, Finishing, Long shots, Passing, Key passes & Dribbling). Our current SE strikers remain: V.Osimhen, T.Awoniyi, S.Umar, Dessers, E.Dennis, Onuachu, and many vibrant and energetic others… in that order!

No space for the retired Ighalo who could not untie the sandals of Anthony Martial in Man United let alone the general E.Cavani. Please those of you criticizing Iheanacho, how many premier league goals did Ighalo score for Man U? that is if he even made the bench…Lolzzz? For the records, Iheanacho scored 12 premier league goals and 2 assists last season with 3 Europa goal (+3 assists) and 4 FA Goals (+1 assist) and off course he won the FA CUP.
Haters go hide your face, Nacho (AKA Senior Man) will do greater things this season.

Finally, if Gernot Rohr does not know how to harness the numerous great vibrant talents (like the current Chelsea team) in the SE, He should honourably resign.

Bringing Odion J. Ighalo back to SE (with due respect bros), will certainly stir up favouritism, sectionalism, low morale and disaffection in the team and a woeful AFCON outing if care is not taken.
Let those who have ear, hear the word of wisdom!!!

    • Lawrence 2 years ago

It isn’t by words of mouth to be a Senior man. He could have even been oke international, Alaba international, Senior man international, na una way. Let him prove it on the pitch of play. One goal in many games, a striker purportedly to know his onions? That’s certainly an off mark. Nigeria as country will be better with consistent and experienced players to leave a mark in the continent. Keep sentiments somewhere with your seniorman appellation, let’s have tangibles.

    • Prof. Tamuno Offiali 2 years ago

      Nuff said**clapping**

You have oil on your head. For the records, Iheanacho is not an out and out striker like Ighalo, yet he has more Prem Lge goals than Ighalo. And lets not forger that he played for ONLY top 6 clubs and not some relegation battling Watford. Whilst Nacho scored Prem goals for both Man City and Leicester, Ighalo never even managed to start a game in anger let alone score for a mediocre Man Utd. Yes, I call them mediocre cos they are no longer the Man U we all used to know.

      • Thank you bros. @Prof. Tamuno Offiali

Also let me add to your brilliant dissection. Ighalo was surplus to requirements for this same Man U. Because, he really doesn’t have anothe gear or Level to hit. We have seen all of Ighalo. He will regress frm here due to Mother Nature (age). Where as in Iheanacho case there was a point last season where Pep was thinking about activating the buy back Clause in Iheanacho contract only to find out he was a year late and the clause had expired.

This is the same Iheanacho that is commanding a place in Leicester City and was very instrumental when Leicester beat Man U 4-2 he created an assist played for 76 minutes and made Harry Maguire look like a amateur.

They are blaming Iheanacho. Lets look at Cristiano Ronaldo. He scored and Assisted against Tottenham yesterday but, last week he was ineffective against Liverpool. But if he carries on like this that Liverpool game Come end of the season will be a distant memory. The same goes for Iheanacho, the fact is he is in better league than Ighalo he is also Younger and he is in top 6 team. And if leicetsr comes good Next game and Iheanacho scores 3 goals for instance what will all his CSN haters say then.

They forget that we have Iheanacho for another 14 plus years and we should be praying that he hits the heights we all know he is capable off. Meanwhile some here are wishing him bad for the sake of a player(Ighalo) who’s best days are behind him all for the sake of supporting a tactless coach and corrupt NFF president.sad mentality

  • A goal in the premier league is equivalent to 10 goals in the Saudi league……If it is easy come to the premier league and play……To grace the premier league alone is an achievement and it takes guts to test yourself with the best and in the best atmosphere football has ever known……The only way we can get far in the world cup is if 99percent of our players play in top5 leagues……we should stop bad mouthing our few SE players that took the brave step any time they have a bad game and we should also stop celebrating mediocrity.

    • Highstar 2 years ago

I wonder why you people think football is only played in Europe, for the record Brazil team that won Korea/Japan World Cup in 2002 was made up of mostly home based players. what have they achieved since going to the World Cup with A-Z European based players ??

      • @Highstar yes Europe can lay claim to that, let’s look at the World Cup in the past 30 years with the Excpetion of Brazil, where are the countries from that have won the World Cup??..

Also the last 4 World Cups which Countries have Won it. Infact Croatia and France played the last Final where are those countries from??

      • @highstar let shed light on something……The world cup has only been won by 8 countries of in the world since it’s 80 years of existence…..England Germany France Italy Spain Brasil Argentina Uruguay…..The top5 league is present there and the remaining 3 countries are south American super powers who have majority of their players in the top5 leagues…….What does this tell you?….. statistics don’t lie….. Football has its soul in Europe……Top level football is played there……The atmosphere in European top5 league is electric and it’s the same atmosphere in the world cup……That is why most African teams go there and freeze I mean get beaten black and blue…… No African team has ever reached the semi final why?…..Skills and Talent alone can not help you when you get to that stage……. You need guts…. you need a big heart….. you need to be used to a similar atmosphere.

      • Prof. Tamuno Offiali 2 years ago

Big, fat lie! I watched that WC live and can reel out the names of that team’s first 11 at the tip of my fingers!

And by the way, the Brazilian top division compares favourably with some of the top 5 European leagues.

Suffice to say if most of our pool ply their trade in Europe, the top 5 must be the CRITERIA! The only exception is where we have EXCEPTIONAL player or players in a league or leagues outside the top 5. A good example is Aribo, Amoo, Bassey, Balogun, Onuachu, Marcus, Onyedika, Alhassan (a more disciplined DM than Etebo who’s more of a Lampard-like CM)

      • The 2002 WC Brasil team had 12 of the 23 players playing in top5 leagues….. Top I mean top Champions league teams…..And 9 of their average starting 11 for each match where in top 5 leagues while the remaining 2 where also top level players who have graced the top 5 league previously…….Now let me list The most used first eleven by scolari during the WC…….

        Dida(Corinthians Brasil)
        Cafu(Roma Italy)
        Lucio(Leverkusen Germany)
        Edmilson(Lyon France)
        Roberto Carlos(R.madrid Spain)
        Kaka(Milan Itali)
        Gilberto Silva(Athletico meniero Brasil)
        Rivaldo(Barcelona Spain)
        Ronaldinho(PSG France)
        Ronaldo(inter Milan Italy)
        Denilson(Real betis Spain)…..
Now how are these home based players?…… please let us be objective when talking about football……Even the so called home base players there have almost all graced the top5 one time or the other while some where already on their way there…….I listed the team that won the world cup for Brasil for you now judge by yourselves……. Quality is the only solution when it comes to WC football……No short cuts no sentiment…….it’s either we keep decieving ourselves or we face the reality…… FOOTBALL HAS ITS SOUL IN EUROPE

        • You guys have said it all @Highstar I hope you have your Answer. Hence we always say No way you can drop players in Top 5 leagues playing week in week our for players in Average leagues.

More especially these are players we have seen and know that they have no mor to give. What are the traffic Instructers or Choir Conductors????.. what makes this debates even more Mind Bogling is that we Re actually talking about Key players in Top 4-6 Big teams in the Top 5 Leagues in Europe. Calling finished players who are winding doen thier carriers to come and motivate young Guns, I mean Victor Osimhen is being seen as the best No 9 in the World Talkless of Nigeria. This is ubsurd.

  • Kenny 2 years ago

@Ugo Iwunze, unless you just want to comment, tell your Iheanacho to score goals instead of struggling to make noise right here. Only one goal in as many as 10 games is below expectation, expectation from a supposed good striker. He is not convincing, that is what is being said and it will be stupid of any coach to include such player in his first 11. You guys should begin to search out a place on the bench for Iheanacho. That on its own is a total waste of space.

    • Gritty 2 years ago

@Kenny, Please how many goals did Ighalo score for Man U in the EPL last season? Did he even make their bench????????? Same season Iheanacho scored 12 premier league goals and 2 assists, with 3 Europa goal (+3 assists) and 4 FA Goals (+1 assist) and of course he won the FA CUP. It was even Iheanacho’s brace that dumped Manchester United out of the FA cup at the semi finals…

No space for the retired Ighalo who could not untie the sandals of Anthony Martial in Man United let alone the general E.Cavani.

Iheanacho has being doing great in Leicester and will continue to do greater things. Senior Man Kels has our support any time, any day! Besides, Iheanacho is an established support striker.
Please can Ighalo bench strikers like; V.Osimhen, T.Awoniyi, S.Umar, et al., supposing they were in the same club as today??????? your guess is as good as mine folks!

Coach G.Rohr, better sit up or ship out! I come in Peace!!!
