Premier League: Iwobi Subbed On, Helps Everton Claim First Win Vs Liverpool At Anfield In 22 Years

Alex Iwobi was introduced with less than 10 minutes left as Everton secured their first league win at Anfield since 1999 with a 2-0 win against Liverpool in Saturday’s Meyserside derby.

Goals from Richarlison and Gylfi Sigurdsson gave Everton a first win against the reigning Premier League champions since since 2010.

Jurgen Klopp’s men have now suffered four straight home defeats for the first time since 1923.

Liverpool were struck with another injury setback as skipper Jordan Henderson went down holding his groin and had to be replaced by Nat Phillips.

Everton capitalised on a fast start in blustering conditions to snatch an early 1-0 lead inside three minutes through Richarlison who ran on to James Rodriguez’s defence-splitting pass before hitting a low shot beyond Alisson.

Everton almost took advantage of the defensive switch immediately when a cross from Lucas Digne picked out Seamus Coleman ghosting in at the far post but Alisson palmed it to safety.

And in the 83rd minute Everton doubled their lead after Sigurdsson converted from the penalty spot following a foul on Dominic Calvert-Lewin by Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The win took Everton to seventh position on 40 points, one place behind Liverpool.

  • Ademola lookman scored the winning goal for fulham against shef wed. They are really trying to escape relegation. They are 3 points behind Newcastle now. With some big matches left to play I wouldn’t want to say they will escape relegation but I hope they do and if they do, I hope their young coach will fortify the team with some more quality players.

    • Their chances are more promising than Ajayi’s Wes Brom.

Sportsfan going by Fulhams match statistics of a late they’ve been possessing and creating chances. Their coach who’s an ex epl players must be a genius for creating such a turn around. I tip them to escape relegation if they continue playing this way and avoid injuries to key players.
