Luis De La Fuente has named his squad for the 2026 World Cup which for the first time doesn’t feature a Real Madrid player representing Spain, One Football reports.
It’s been a relatively tough season for Real Madrid and that’s reflected in the fact that no players have been called up to the Spanish side.
Carvajal, Huijsen, Asencio, Garcia Overlooked
Dani Carvajal, who said goodbye to the club on Saturday night, had been one of De la Fuente’s most-trusted lieutenants in the national team camp in recent years.
However, the veteran right-back’s injury woes and lack of minutes in the season meant he was not even included in the 56-man preliminary squad list.

The likes of Dean Huijsen, Fran Garcia, Alvaro Carreras, Raul Asencio, and Gonzalo Garcia had been named in the list of probables, but none of them have made the final cut for the summer tournament.
The biggest surprise, perhaps, comes in the form of Huijsen’s exclusion because he is a player that De la Fuente had counted on as a starter in the not very distant past.
But the youngster has had an inconsistent campaign, leading to him being overlooked for someone like Eric Garcia of Barcelona.
Instead, Atlético Madrid defender Marc Pubill features as a centre-back option alongside Aymeric Laporte, Eric García, and Pau Cubarsí.
Another Madrid player Dani Ceballos was never in consideration for a call-up.
Arsenal, Man City, Chelsea, Spurs Stars Make Cut
There are seven Premier League stars selected for this summer’s squad with with three from champions Arsenal: David Raya, Mikel Merino, and Martín Zubimendi as well as Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella, Tottenham’s Pedro Porro, Manchester City man Rodri, and Yeremy Pino of Crystal Palace.
The 2010 winners will begin their World Cup campaign on June 15th against Cabo Verde before facing Saudi Arabia and Uruguay.
