Rodgers Explains Why He Substituted Iheanacho In Leicester’s Defeat To Bournemouth

Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers says the decision to replace Kelechi Iheanacho at half-time in Sunday’s 4-1 defeat against Bournemouth was a tactical one, reports Completesports.com.

Iheanacho, who played a key role in Jamie Vardy’s opening goal at the Vitality Stadium was replaced at half-time by Dennis Praet.

The Foxes controlled the game in the first half and led 1-0, before conceding four times after the break.

“(Iheanacho) wasn’t having one of his better games,” said Rodgers in his post-match press conference. “

The issue for us defensively was on the side of the pitch, because there was a lot of space for Wilf and Youri to cover.

“So we pushed Ayo on, he was playing well, and added an extra midfielder in to help cover.

“But the defeat wasn’t tactical, it was about the spirit.”

Iheanacho has featured in 18 league appearances for the Foxes this season and scored five goals.

    This coach should be sacked..

Iheabcho was causing so much trouble for the opposite team yet he is the first to be withdrawn.. He keeps pulling him off, he keeps losing.
There is no reasonable reason pullimg him off..

Kelechi’s number 1 problem right from Man city is his control of the ball once it gets to him. It is rare than once passed to, the ball doesn’t get away from him, he really has to work on his 1st touch. Scoring has neva been his problem especially in the box. To me there is no way Ayoze Perez should be playing more minutes than Kele, the guy gives the ball away too much but has a better ball control than kelechi.

Also as an aside, Iwobi has to up his game, he needs to be more daring and brave in terms of scoring goal. I understand people will say he is playing to instruction but no player is robot that can’t use his/her initiative. His movements are good but he needs to add more. Ancelotti will have moni to spend next season and he will reinforce the team as some players will be surplus to requirement. If am Iwobis adviser I will advise him to work on his shooting, making more and better runs in the box to be in position to score. From the wing he plays, Iwobi should be scoring more. He is tall, speedy, and strong so him not scoring, is a disappointment to me. Though I have to say that the Everton team is average at best. My tots tho.
