Saul Backs Felix To Improve Further

Saul Niguez has been impressed with Atletico Madrid summer recruit Joao Felix and he feels the teenage sensation can improve further. Los Colchoneros forked out a staggering €126million to snare Felix from Benfica over the summer in a club-record deal, beating off competition from a number of European heavyweights.

Felix managed 20 goals in 43 appearances for the Lisbon club last season and has made a strong start to life in Spain with three strikes and one assist in 10 games across all competitions.

Saul feels the 19-year-old is already a key member of the Atleti side but insists there is much more to come from the Portugal international.

He told Sport: “He’s won me over with his desire to learn, to improve, to learn and to contribute to the team. He’s adapting still and when he’s 100 per cent, you can demand more. Now he’s giving everything on the pitch, doing well for the team. Every time he gets the ball, he looks to the goal. He’s one of those different players.”

Atletico were held to a 0-0 draw at Valladolid in their last La Liga outing, with Felix playing for the first hour, and will look to get back to winning ways when they entertain Valencia in the next round of fixtures on October 19.
The Madrid outfit sit third in La Liga with 15 points after eight games, three adrift of league leaders and city rivals Real and a point behind defending champions Barcelona.
