Simon May Opt Out Of Super Eagles AFCON Qualifiers Due To Covid-19 Travel Ban

Super Eagles winger, Simon Moses will miss Nigeria’s 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Benin and Lesotho due to covid-19 travel restriction in France.

Simon, who was listed by Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr for the make or mar games on March 27 and March 30 respectively has been told that he won’t be released by Ligue 1 club, Nantes

Recall that Simon was the hero when he scored the team’s second goal against Paris Saint Germain (PSG) on Sunday.

Nantes confirmed his absence via its official website on Wednesday: “Like several clubs in France, FC Nantes will not release their selected international players for matches outside of Europe during the next international break scheduled for the end of March,” Nantes said in a statement.

“In the absence of health guarantees in accordance with the requirements of the French government in force to date, FC Nantes will not be able to release its internationals outside the limits of European space.

“This decision, based on FIFA circular 1749 of February 5, is justified by the return protocol imposed on travelers who have traveled outside the European Union, who must in particular respect a seven-day isolation.”

This may finally pave the way for Peter Olayinka all things being equal…if the coach chooses to plug the gap. Life na turn by turn. Pray for your turn and it will come when its destined to.

Olayinka should be in hand to take Simons place.
Fortunately we only have a handful of players based in France otherwise we would have been hard hit by this travel restrictions.
I wonder how Benin will raise a team to play this very important match against a strong super eagles without it’s first team.
I really feel sorry for its manager.Well can I complain?

Well, the rumour says Paul Onuachu.

  • Ololo 3 years ago

    The replacement is Paul onuachu.

This guy has a way of forcing his way from stand by list to the main list and doesn’t do well enough to earn the trust of the coach at the end of the day..

Hope he utilizes this opportunity this time around

  • Coach Rohr, pls bring in Micheal Olise as a replacement

  • Ololo 3 years ago

Rohn replacement are players that have had extended periods in the team before now..

The matches coming are designed in a way that there will few training sessions before the games so no time for new players integration, it would be go into the pitch and do what you have learnt in previous trainings and time with the team. So olayinka would have his time, but for now let’s go with familiar faces

If the reports are true then it’s a loss but massive? Na men I think we still got a formidable squad that should at least take 4 points from Benin and Lesotho..

  • Great opportunity for those on standby list…

If i were those on standby list, i’ll have seize this opportunity and make those regulars remember the SE bench…

Use this opportunity and give ROHR and SE fans a rethink….
