And, on the decision to stay put at Lord’s for another two years, Simpson told the club’s website: “I am very pleased to have extended my contract with Middlesex into what will be my eleventh and twelfth seasons at the club. “There is a real sense of excitement around the club ahead of the new season and we can’t wait to get going.”

Head coach Stuart Law added: “He has been an important member of Middlesex Cricket for the last 10 years. “With a fresh approach and new ideas from within the dressing room, I’m sure Simmo is ready to challenge himself further to improve his game and to ensure that Middlesex have not only a great season but build a platform of success for many years to come. “His experience and talent will be vital to ensuring the teams’ success moving forward.”
