Sports Minister Enoh Laments Decay Of Moshood Abiola National Stadium

The Honourable Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Owan Enoh, undertook an inspection tour of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja on Wednesday, August 23 to assess the state of facilities in the multi-sports complex and thereafter decried the conditions of the facilities.

Led on the tour by the ministry’s permanent secretary, Alhaji Ismaila Abubakar, Director of Facilities and Stadium Management at the Federal Ministry of Sports Development, Engineer Alanamu Abolore inspected packages A and B of the stadium.

Senator Enoh visited the main bowl of the stadium, the velodrome, the facility building, the athletes’ hostel, the Federation and Elite Athletes Department (FEAD), the Power Technical Building, as well as other facilities in the edifice.

Speaking with the media after the tour the minister stated: “We embarked on this tour because whatever one wants to do, we have to do it from a standpoint of knowledge, and that is what I am doing. Yesterday (Tuesday) was my first day at work and I had the opportunity to take reports and briefings from all the departments, after which I left the office at about 10pm. We are trying to be as systematic as we can, with the process

“Facilities and infrastructures are a key component of sports, as they are variables that drive both elite performance and grassroots development. It is therefore very important that we get it right. We must maintain the current infrastructures that we have, and look towards making them better, to match what we have across the world.

“Moshood Abiola National Stadium has the capacity to become one of the best multi-purpose stadium complexes in Africa. I promised to give the required attention to infrastructural development to ensure that it remains the best.

“Amidst the so much that I have seen here, the positives and the negatives, this stadium is a very definitive national monument. There is about nothing that you will find elsewhere, that you cannot find here.

“However, from 2003 till date, the facility has gone through a lot and suffered decay and looks very unkempt. The ministry under my leadership will do all that it can, to get every part of the stadium functional, including the athletes’ hostel, because athletes must have the best, to be the best, ” the minister stated.

Enoh also added that he will visit other facilities across the country, to assess their state and take definitive actions on their development.

Where is the last Honoursble Sports Minister, to tell Nigerians which stadium Dangote and Kessington renovated?

  • Ako Amadi 10 months ago

Where is the last Sports Minister? What did he write in his handing-over notes on how MKO Abiola decayed yet again after extensive tefurbishment

  • That former sports minister is a scam of a man what he knows is how to blow grammar. He is the worst sports minister the country ever had. He created division in every sector of our sports FA. I can never forget the role he played in Rohr saga that man was the reason the poor man was sacked at the eve of world cup qualifyer and hence cost us a slot at the world cup in Qatar. Thank God he got humbled and was silent afterwards, like he regretted his action. He also needs to be prob if truly Dangote spent that money on the stadium and it’s like this.

Some comments here are just washed with hatred. Even the former Minister said the funds dangote donated was appreciated but not enough to bring the stadium to the standard of a world class stadium. Why are some people acting like fools and dummy’s. Even Top clubs around the world, spend way more than a million dollars to maintain their stadiums every years. But some morons will come here and be looking for scapegoats to hold accountable. Abeg make una go sleep. So na 1 million dollars go bring una stadium to standard. Make una go ask uncle sege how much Manchester united dey use maintain their stadium grass.

It would be unfair for Wike to bulldoze decayed structures in Abuja and spare the MKO Abiola Stadium. The minister of sports hasn’t seen anything yet; not until he visits the National Stadium in Lagos, the City of Excellence

  • Patriotic Nigerians should start buying as well as get use to drones. WE MUST LEARN TO HELP THOSE IN AUTHORITY with SEED FOR WEEDING.

    • Ignatius Abo 10 months ago

Lolzzz, @Glory, if u give these corrupt people resources to buy drones they will only eat the money. They are rotten. Only heaven can deliver us. Don’t give these thieves seeds o, they will only sell them for their own gains. Lolzzz….

      • @ brodaman Abo. Nigeria’s situation is pathetically looking gloomy. No hope of a better tomorrow with these Satans in power.
YEAH, on a personal ground we might be HEAD n shoulder high high high above waters but seeing and hearing the hardship being suffered by majority of Nigerians, all because of these animals, who are hell bent on bringing nigeria to dust provokes deep ANGER. WE HAVE TO WAKE UP AND ACT. TECHNOLOGY HAS MADE IT EASY/POSSIBLE NOW, TO REACH PEOPLE FROM DISTANCE. WE MUST START THINKING IN THIS DIRECTION. IF MAJORITY OF NIGERIANS JOIN IN THIS THOUGHT PROCESS, THEN THOSE ANIMALS WILL IN A FEW YEARS TO COME, BE REDUCE TO MERE BUSH MEAT IRRESPECTIVE OF THEIR BRAIN DEAD/EXTREMELY VULNERABLE BODYGUARDS AROUND THEM.
BUT IF WE KEEP HOPING AGAINST HOPE THAT THESE LOTS WILL DO THE RIGHT THING SOMEDAY, THEN THAT FELA SONG’, SUFFERING AND SMILING ‘ WILL BECOME AN ETERNAL NIGERIAN SOUND BEAT.
