Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi are talking about their personal lives and family love as friends and ignoring football things, surprisingly in a week in which both friends will be in opposing teams when Atletico Madrid host Barcelona in Laliga Santander matchday-10 at the Wanda Metropolitano on Saturday.
Messi and Suarez, became very close friends at Barcelona before the Uruguayan superstar exited the Camp Nou after a six-year stint under controversial circumstances and joined Atletico. His much touted forced exit also prompted Messi’s transfer request move which caused further controversies at the Laliga giants.
Suarez told Marca in an interview that he and
are talking about life and their families rather than Athletico Madrid versus Barcelona – their first match as opponents since the Uruguayan joined Diego simeone’s team.
“The truth is that we speak a lot, but honestly we talk about our life.
t was recently the birthday of one of my children, also his. We talked about life, the virus, everything, but very little about football, about the goals we miss or about tactical
systems,” Suarez told Marca.

“We worry more about how the family is than about what happens in football.”
Suarez is currently Atletico Madrid’s joint top scorer alongside Joao Felix with five goals from six
matches, and indication that he is enjoying his career again, this time under Diego Simeone.
Suarez added: “I was sad and hurt by the way I left [Barcelona] – I already said it. But when they close a door, five more open to you where they value my work, professionalism and
trajectory. I feel proud.
“Where they did not want me, there was another that wanted me. I found happiness and I’m ernjoying this moment now.”
Going into Saturday’s match, Atletico are third in the Laliga Santander table – three points behind surprise leaders Real Sociedad, and one behind second-placed Villarreal, yet with two games in hand. Barcelona are eighth on 11 points from seven games, also with two matches outstanding.
