Super Eagles Shun Dinner, Hold Meeting After Defeat To Madagascar

Super Eagles players shunned dinner and held a team meeting on Sunday night in the aftermath of their shocking 2-0 loss to Madagascar in their final Group B game of AFCON 2019 at the Alexandria Stadium, Completesports.com reports.

The three-time African champions were the overwhelming favourites to win the game, but were completely outplayed by the debutants who put up a battling display all through.

The defeat cost the Super Eagles the top position in the group as they finished in second place with six points, one adrift the Barea.

The Super Eagles could also now set for a tough Round of 16 clash with perennial rivals, the Black Stars of Ghana if the Black Stars finish second in Group C, but Benin Republic and Guinea-Bissau are also in contention for that group’s second spot finish.

Completesports.com scooped that the Nigeria players were in a somber mood after the match against Madagaacar and scolded themselves for their horrible display.

They all resolved to put the defeat behind them and work hard to win subsequent games in order to win back the fans.

The West Africans won their opening two games against the Swallows of Burundi and Syli Nationale of Guinea before slumping to defeat versus Madagascar.

I guess now the AFCON is truly about to begin for our Super Eagles. Celebrating those two mediocre wins against a debutant and another minnow was so mediocre.

Now I think they are getting into the killer mood.

As for the coach, I hope he has begun to get it. That man lacked fire in his bones…

@Bomboy your comparison/analysis is true however, it’s also about trained natural ability and pedigree, apart from overconfidence and bloated ego, knowledge of pedigree sets you ahead a few steps and bounds than initiate level, so it counts for something, even a div iv Europe/Africa Naija player knows what’s expected.. so no matter what..that WAS a shameful loss..and we know about the football industry’s politics and sabotage game against Naija talent and how they’re trying to open up new markets for merchandise in their spread football success plan while blocking out pesky Nigerians.. iYkYk

    Better!

  • I just don’t know about Ighalo. Why does Rohr always opt for a lone striker? And that striker’s pattern of scoring goals is so predictable and therefore can be easily caged/marked out? Rohr has the tools at his disposal; perhaps the best in this Afcon. But he’s yet to work out the best combination/formation in attack and offensive midfield. They have the resources to win this Afcon easily. I’ve seen all the teams, and apart from Egypt and Morroco, a well gelled Nigerian team should really have no problem bulldozing their way to the trophy. But can Rohr work out the right formula?

  • With d lose I dont know who dey wil not beat in d next game. Even if egypt cameroon or ghana any team wil fall to eagle now .

  • Next SE opponent may be in for a rude awakening

The eagles deserve all the insults from fans , what a shambolic display!!..I think the coach don’t have it in him , he is a damn loser for stating that the lost to Madagascar is not shameful!!…For Rohr information , we are Nigerians, we are the best playing football nation in Africa and we love our football. Rohr is not bringing any thing new that have not been achieved by a Nigerian coach !!..Keshi qualified us to the worldcup as well as win AFCON for Nigeria , he is a Nigerian , therefore Rohr should stop bringing shame to our country and since he is not remorseful, he must be sacked after AFCON , no matter the final outcome !!

I tell you…the man goofed by such statement. His contemporaries will say” its a shame we lost despite ……”

With that, you know that he’s remorseful of the lost.

I pray he gets his team selection right going forward.

As for the players,I forgive them for this singular attitude of remorse. I felt like dropping a tear when I saw this news. This means that these players read what we write here. I forgive them for showing penitence.

I will support them once again.

      Go Eagles!!

They’re preparing to sack him after afcon but I don’t think that’s the solution to the team’s problem

Pls can somebody answer this questions in Nigeria, where is someone like Obafemi Martins aka OBAGOAL, Kalu uche, Agali, I.k Kali, Emenike, we are a country that have resources both in football but we don’t know how to use them, what a waste in Nigeria.

    • Pompei 5 years ago

Bros, you’re on point. We also have Dan Amokachi, Samson Siasia, Victor Ikpeba, Jonathan Akpoborie, and so many other good strikers. I don’t know why Rohr did not invite all of them. Hehehehe….bros, I hail ooooo 🙂

      • Bomboy 5 years ago

@ Pompei, please don’t make me laugh. My ribs are cracking…

Who cares? If they like, they should sleep with an empty stomach. Who cares? They have bn paid for their Services. So therefore, we want results.

A team that have no idea about set pieces is a team to rely on?

As a good coach, what do you build your team on?

No playmakers, no team spirit. No freekick specialists in the team. No team leader. No confidence in the team. So, what do you expect? Absolutely zero result.

It’s not all about yesterday’s match against Madagascar but it’s all about the coach and the NFF.

As a good coach, you need a good structure. Vision and a big dream to building a big team.

Every angle, any corner in Nigeria, we have players who are good enough to represent our nation but NFF sabotaged our National team for a white coach who have nothing to offered Nigerians but heart attack football.

This Oyinbo coach said our league bellow his standards and our local players not good enough. Hmm, I asked him a question, where was coach Westerhof gotten his players from?

    Germany, Brazil or England?

Again, who is fooling who between Coach Rohr, coach Rohr’s fans, NFF and our journalists?

Omo9ja is here to tell you the truth because telling Nigerians the truth will brings the best out of our players, coach Rohr, NFF, coach Rohr’s fans and our journalists.

Come me names you want, I don’t care. As long as Nigeria is moving forward I’m satisfied. Ire o. God bless Nigeria!!!

    • Pompei 5 years ago

Omo9ja, I Pompei will never, ever call you names. For a simple reason. You make your comments without insulting anybody. You are entitled to your opinion, and I will always respect that, even though I do not agree with you at all! SO, IRE OOOOOOO right back atcha! Peace, brother!

      • Omo9ja 5 years ago

Good point my man. Making a point is good without insulting anybody. I have an image to protect.

As a good Nigerian I have to protect our culture and respect myself. That is why I don’t talk just any how. We all want the best for our Country. Different visions but one goal. God bless Nigeria!!!

    • “Who cares? If they like, they should sleep with an..”.
Care small na brother,at least they are showing some remorse na.

“This Oyinbo coach said our league bellow his standards and our local players not good enough.”
You mean he said this?Or maybe said this in a different context.
If he said this to provoke the FA to improve the league,he has at the same time sent a message to demoralise the players. This is not the way to ginger the FA at all.
Now,facing his comment squarely, league below “standard”, I can agree, but never, never should he say the players are not good enough.
Don’t we have Goalkeepers better than some(if not ALL) the ones he took.We do,let’s be objective,we do. We have great fullbacks currently in the league too.I stop here.
If the man says, his policy is to source for players outside Niger for one reason or the other,I would accept provided he organises a good team. You know every coach has his own nuance. But he shouldn’t say local players(All local players) are not good enough. Haba,he shouldn’t make me cry o.

We hope this serves as the wake up call. It is timely as it came after we have secured passage to the next round. They have no option than to up their tempo and play with desire in the knock
out stages. I have always believed that the team that can stop Super Eagles of Nigeria is the Super Eagles themselves.

  • Edoman 5 years ago

Look folks, they are all faking it. They all eat behind the closed door and laugh and joked and sing and dance on their way to the banks. They don’t really care. They regarded their pay as a part of their National cake. It was simply wrong to pay them before they even kick a ball. Anyway, that is going to be their last meal for some of them. They will be defeated in their next game and return home.
The NFF should start to advertise for a new National coach now if they want to take part in the next World Cup.
