Super Eagles Shun Press Conference; Protest Over Unpaid Allowances, Bonuses

Super Eagles players shunned Tuesday’s press conference ahead of their next Group B clash against the Syli Nationale of Guinea billed for the Alexandria Stadium on Wednesday as they were locked in a meeting to deliberate on the non – payment of their bonuses and allowances, Completesports.com reports.

Vice-captain of the team, Ahmed Musa was expected to attend Tuesday’s pre-match conference along with the team’s gaffer, Gernot Rohr, but but stayed back at the hotel with the rest of his teammates to discuss the issue.

Completesports.com scooped that the players who have kept silent on the issue since they started preparations for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt are now ready to take the matter up with the Nigeria Football Federation.

It would be recalled that the Flying Eagles also protested over the non payment of their bonuses refusing to leave their their hotel following their elimination at the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Poland.

The Super Falcons also staged a similar protest after they were knocked out of the ongoing 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup in France against Germany on Saturday.

Gernot Rohr’s men will take on Guinea on Wednesday at the Alexandria Stadium.

It is too early for all this nonsense.
Beating Burundi has given us the bragging right.
One thing you guys do forget is when you win tournaments, many other organizations will even pay u more than the NFF will

Meanwhile, monkey should be working while the baboon eats up everything, right?

      Please NFF, pay up!

  • This is one of it later some idiots will start blaming the coach when the players are not been financially motivated do you think they will give 100%.

  • NFF!
What’s happening. I’m beginning to suspect dis my Waffi senior bros o- Amaju.
It was not so in the beginning o.
    Players shud be paid.

I curse the infrastructure of corruption in Nigeria, in Jesus name!

  • This comment is out of place

  • absolutely nonsense. why this at this torid time? who even raise this issue? what is even wrong with these press men. they should remain mute if they dont have something meaningful to discuss. mtcheeeew.

    NFF please pay these guys.

You guys are only doing admin job, gallivanting and globes throttling and earning huge pays, allowances and largesse but these guys and ladies that put their lives on the line to defend the colours of this country are always given excuses whenever its time to pay them.

    What’s wrong with you folks?

  • Walking 5 years ago

Now,they have an excuse to lose tomorrow’s match…

  • Very funny. When old administration were owing money, amaju said there style of operation will be different. So what is happening. Guess he realizes it’s not easy being an administrator and giving what is not available

  • What manner of peope are “WE”? I say we because one match in there are “supposed” money issues. Why do we expect bonuses after each match to be paid same day? What do we put ourselves into a position that destabilises our tournaments?

With alll our “Naija sense”, how hard is it to have an arrangement to ensure these payments are not with held. Simple agree currency and price, create an escrow account for the moneys to be paid into and GIVE TIME, for international payments to clear. It’s not like they are using western union or instant payments?

This is again, a matter of trust. Players do not trust the officials that’s why any small delay they drop tools or threaten strike. Is it any wonder that players do not reach their full capacity in tournaments?

In 20 years we have only won AFCON once, he have only reached the semi finals 50% of the time. We have only reached the second round of the World Cup. That is our level because of our mentality. And with this I am blaming both the officials, the coach as well as the players.

If this continues we will be lucky to reach the semi finals self

I am tired of this constant embarrassment by both players and NFF, it is high time we ban international football in Nigeria for four years so that we can arrange our house in order and for players to appreciate the patriotic zeal of playing for Nigeria and for nff official /staff to understand the pain of unemployment !!!..enough is enough !!

Not again, all this boys don pass this level na,even Argentina once got this problem Shoo, so called big boys

It’s over. Anytime this kind of monetary issue comes up during a competition, our super eagles never does well thereafter. It doesn’t matter if the money was subsequently paid or not. Nigeria, bye bye 2019 Nations cup. What a heartbreak!

  • OwnGoalNigeria says Mikel has managed to convince the players to come out for the afternoon training session today after they had boycotted the morning session + traditional pre-match press briefing. The report said he told his teammates he spoke with a top-ranking govt official who has promised him the money will be made available this Friday as they needed to convert it to dollar from naira first. Pheew!

But why do Nigerians (in fact, Africans) especially have a habit of not honouring contracts/financial commitments until gra-gra enter? I don’t understand. If I promise you something, I’ll do it, no matter what. If I can’t do it at the agreed time, I will let you know quickly and arrange a new date/time with you. But I will eventually do it and in good time too! How hard can that be!? I don’t understand oo.

I think this is one scripted drama, I believe NFF plan it with the guys just to get the money from Mr president knowing well that Mr President will release the money once he heard that the players had boycott training.
