Super Falcons Star Kanu Bags Hat-trick In Mexican Women’s League Opener

Super Falcons forward Uchenna Kanu netted a hat-trick as Tigres UANL opened their Mexican women’s league season with a 6-0 home win against Atlas on Tuesday, Completesports.com reports.

Other scorers for Tigres UANL side Kanu are Mia Fishel who scored two goals and Jacquie Ovalle.

The impressive win means Tigres are second behind Juarez in the 18-team league standings.

Tigres are the current league champions after claiming their fifth title last season, the most by any Mexican women’s team.

Commonly known as Las Amazonas (The Amazons), Tigres is one of only four clubs that have been able to win the Mexican women’s league title.

Kanu represented Nigeria at the 2014 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup and the 2014 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.

She made her senior debut with the Super Falcons on 8 April 2019 in a 1–2 friendly loss to Canada.

  • With players like Kanu, Oshoala, Payne, Ajibade, Ucheibe, Plumptre and Gift Monday, Nigeria has what it takes to upset the apple cart in the world cup in the summer if Waldrum is able to display some tactical acumen.

Is it me or has the NFF been quite about their plans for priming the Super Falcons for the tournamen? By now we should have been hearing rumbles of friendly matches or invitational tournaments but nothing.

From what we have seen, the Super Falcons perform better after adequate preparations. They ground out a 1:1 draw against Canada and succumb to a very slim 2:1 loss to the United States after having time to prepare.

Hopefully the NFF will unveil their pre-world Cup plans for the Super Falcons sooner rather than later.

We are in the same group with Canada, co-hostesses Australia and high flying Ireland in the tournament.
