Sydney Too Good For Wigan

Sydney Roosters have won the World Club Challenge after a 20-8 victory over Wigan Warriors at the DW Stadium.

The NRL champions were too good for the Super League winners as Brett Morris’ first-half hat-trick did much of the damage – the Australian side triumphing on Sunday night to pick up a record-equalling fourth World Club Challenge title.

Sydney were in front early on through Morris’ first try of the night and he quickly got his second, which was this time converted by Sio Siua Taukieaho, as the visitors opened up an ominous 10-0 lead.

Wigan got on the scoresheet with a Tom Davies try but Zak Hardaker missed the conversion and, just as it looked like the Warriors were in contention, Morris went over again to make it 14-4 at the break.

In the second half, Roosters prop Taukieaho kicked a penalty to extend Sydney’s lead further before Liam Marshall gave Wigan hope of mounting a late comeback with the Super League side’s second try of the night.

However, Daniel Tupou’s late score put an end to any chance of a fightback and Sydney deservedly ran out winners in the annual showpiece.
