Tennessee Titans vs Tampa Bay Buccaneers Preseason Odds, Preview, and Prediction
The Tennessee Titans made what they thought were significant personnel additions last season but still failed miserably on the field, with a 3-14 mark.
That earned them the #1 pick in the draft, which they used to select Cam Ward, the quarterback from the University of Miami. That’s the guy they’ll count on to help turn things around as they compete in what could be a rather wide-open AFC South division.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have had a hold on the NFC South for quite a while now. They have won four straight division championships, and prior to all that, they won the Super Bowl.
With an offense that ranked in the NFL’s top three, and a newfound ground attack, they are ready to take control once again, in the minds of many.
The Bucs will play host to the Titans at 7:30 PM ET on Saturday at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa.

Looking at the Tampa Bay Bucs
The weapons the Bucs had at their disposal to rank third in passing offense and fourth in rushing offense are back for more – wide receivers Mike Evans and Chris Godwin, tight end Cade Otton and running back Bucky Irving, who gained 1122 yards on a 5.4-yard average.
Emeka Egbuka was drafted out of Ohio State, while Tez Johnson was taken from Oregon. Those rookies, along with second-year man Jalen McMillian, give them a lot of wide receivers to work with. Baker Mayfield continued his renaissance, with 41 TD passes in 2024.
Almost none of these players will be a big factor here – well, except the young receivers.
So you have to look to see what they have behind Mayfield. Between Kyle Trask and Michael Pratt, there are no NFL starts. The interesting news that came out of training camp this week was the signing of Teddy Bridgewater, who did the unusual thing last year, splitting his year between coaching a Miami high school team to a state title and serving as a backup for the Lions toward the end of the season.
Bridgewater caught a suspension for offering improper benefits to players. And he says that he was planning a return to the NFL anyway.
With the Bucs he reunites with a lot of people on staff, including his former coach at Louisville, Charlie Strong. So it won’t be a rough transition. The team hopes that he will compete with Trask to be the backup. But it is not likely that he will see action on Saturday night.
As this team moves forward, they have a much more complete attack than anyone else in the division, where they are listed as a -115 favorite at BetOnline to win for the fifth consecutive season.
Looking at the Tennessee Titans
The big news, of course, is the arrival of Ward, who played for three different schools (Incarnate Word, Washington State, Miami) on his way to being the top pick in the 2025 draft. He threw for 4313 yards for the Hurricanes last season.
He’s a great playmaker and he scores high on the character chart, but the QB field in the draft was not particularly deep. How quickly can he grasp what they are doing in Nashville? It shouldn’t be that long. But does he have enough around him?
Veteran offensive line guru Bill Callahan (who took the Raiders to a Super Bowl, where they lost to the Bucs) and his son Brian, who is now the head coach, are trying to build an O-line that can compete, but it’s a work in progress. They allowed 52 sacks last year. But they’ve made some changes, notably Kevin Zeitler, a 14-year vet at guard who will upgrade the position.
The talented Will Levis would have been a great backup, but he’s had surgery on his shoulder that takes him out for the whole season.
The leaves the Titans with reserve help from Brandon Allen and Tim Boyle, neither of whom has done much in NFL regular season action. But both of them have been able to hang around the league for a while, because they know the “drill.” They are guys who can acclimate themselves to whatever system they’re in, and know what their “station” is. What’s better is that they’re competing with each other to be the backup.
Prediction – Tennessee Titans at Tampa Bay Buccaneers
In terms of the motivation of the coaching staff, the Titans probably have more of it, and Callahan has indicated that the starters wil play, at least to some degree, in all of the preseason games.
With Ward, and some decent “mop-up” guys at quarterback, we may do what might seem unthinkable and lay more than a field goal on the road with the Titans, who won all three exhibition games for Callahan last year.
