Troost-Ekong : It’s A Great Honour To Captain Nigeria

Watford defender William Troost-Ekong says it is a “great honour” to captain Nigeria, reports Completesports.com.

“It’s a great honour to captain your country, I think when I first came to the Super Eagles I didn’t realize it could go that quickly,” Troost-Ekong told MTN Nigeria’s We Move With Super Eagles.

“However, I think I’ve been here quite consistently and it’s a great honour from the coach and trust that I’m getting to get that role but it comes with responsibility.”

Troost-Ekong said that being his nation’s leader did not add any extra pressure to his game, or change the way he approaches each match.

“If you wear the band or not I think I still play the same, it doesn’t change anything about how I play, what I do,” he continued.

“I might have one or two extra responsibilities on the pitch but it is still the same, I still play the same and talk the same so it doesn’t make that much of a difference.”

You’re a top defender and great captain Troost-Ekong. Come on and help us win this AFCON as underdogs again like it was in 2013.

I hope the drop of Balogun too (due to injury) won’t affect his game, based on the eternal understanding both have in the center of defence.

The fear now is, he would have limited time to create that sufficient understanding with whomever is called upon to pair him up in Cameroun, plus all the mind games Watford is playing with releasing him on time, definitely he’d be arriving late…looks scary

Yea @Richie. Balogun, Ndidi and Osimhen are the spine of the SE. Without 2 of them, it’ll be a steep climb. Now is the time for men to step up.

We all know the team list is inexplicably missing some names. However, we have ballers in that team that can win games. Then after AFCON and WCQ playoff, a revolution should take place in the NFF. A complete cleansing.

  • Good luck the Super Eagles, God bless Ekong. Nigerians have so much faith in your ability. Go there and do us proud.

  • Leon Balogun is a real leader in defence. Without him we have to make do with Ekong whom I hope will step up his game and man the defence properly. I guess its ekong and omerua in defence now or probably a three man defence including awaziem. I wish them the, best at the AFCON.

      Omeruo ke, to start????

Biko make he dey start from bench oooooo, in case of emergencies ONLY

All these fast-paced strikers coming to Cameroun, dem go turn am inside out when the mata reach critical level oooh….no room for trial and error oh biko hmmmm

The Omeruo of 2013 is no longer the Omeruo of 2021….same thing goes for Musa..let them remain on the fringes, tournaments like this, na serious business oh

If they had kept faith with Nnamdi Oduamadi or Ogu for so long as they have done to these spent forces, Nnamdi’s/Ogu’s career would have blossomed. Omeruo has passed his prime from Chelsea to Division 2 in Spain, HE KNOWS HOW TO OIL PEOPLE’S PALMS in NFF.

Musa is another waste of poor man’s tax money. Running like Pius Ikedia since 2011. They will say he scored against ICELAND and Argentina bla bla bla. Happy New Year Guys

A great honor to captain the Super Eagles to their early exit in AFCON with your high error rates in the defence .
