Troost-Ekong Relishes Eagles’ Win Over Benin On ‘Home Soil’ Uyo

William Troost-Ekong is thrilled to see the Super Eagles start their 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign on a winning note on his ‘home soil’ in Uyo, Completesports.com reports.

The three-time African champions survived an early scare to beat the the Squirrels 2-1 at the Akwa Ibom International Stadium, Uyo on Wednesday.

The Squirrels took a shock lead in the 2nd minute when captain of the side, Stephane Sessegnon slotted the ball home after he was set up by Jodel Dossou.

The hosts equalised on the stroke of half time with Victor Osimhen converting from the spot after Ola Aina was brought down in the box.

Samuel Kalu then netted the winning goal for Nigeria in the 62nd minute following a brilliant solo effort.

Gernot Rohr’s chrages will face the Crocodiles of Lesotho in a matchday-two fixture at the Setsoto Stadium, Maseru on Sunday.
