Nigeria’s Falconets thrashed England 3-0 to reach the quarterfinals of the FIFA women’s U-20 World Cup on Thursday, completesports.com reports.
Goals from Tosin Rafiu, Janet Akekoromowei and substitute Mary Mamudu secured the dominant win for the Falconets.
Rafiu opened the scoring in the 7th minute as she ran on to a pass and hit a low left foot shot which rolled past the England keeper.
With 10 minutes left to play in the first half Falconets captain Christina Uzoma made a brilliant penalty save to keep the scoreline at 1-0.
Three minutes into the second half the Akekoromowei doubled the lead, after hitting a left foot strike into the back of the net following a a poor corner kick clearance by the England defence.

Then in the 72nd minute Mamudu added the third, rushing into the box and slotting home Akekoromowei’s cutback.
The Moses Aduku-led side will now face either Poland or Colombia in the quarterfinals on Sunday, September 20.
Poland and Colombia’s last eight clash will come up later today (Thursday).

Well done girls for giving the English young women a real drubbing today.
I did say after the New Caledonian game that this Falconets are capable of beating the well drilled and high value English U-20 women team with their pace, dribbling skills and physicality and so it proved with a comprehensive 3-0 victory by the Falconets.
Credit must go to Uzoma in Falconets goal as she basically frustrated and thwarted every English women’s efforts to breach their goal, including a superb save from a Penalty that was dubiously “awarded” the English women in the 33rd minute. Had England scored that Penalty in first half and equalised at 1-1, the complexion of the game could have changed in English favour!
Congratulations to Aduku and his wards for beating a better coached, better exposed, high value English girls, majority of whom are already playing senior women English WSL football with clubs like Chelsea, Manchester City, Aston villa, Manchester United etc.
