RB Leipzig coach Marco Rose has stated that his club will need a top performance against England team Manchester City in their UEFA Champions League clash on Wednesday, October 4 at the Red Bull Arena.
The teams are set to square off in a matchday two fixture as they try to navigate their path through the group phase.
City lost 1-0 to Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup Third Round on Wednesday, September 27 at St James Park with Alexander Isak scoring the only goal.
The Citizens also lost 2-1 to Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday, September 30 at the Molineux Stadium with Ruben Dias’ own goal and Hwang Hee-Chan’s strike making it two for Wolves. Julian Alvarez scored City’s consolation goal.
Despite the recent drawbacks Rose is wary of facing the Premier League champions.

In an interview with rbleipzig.com, Rose lauded City while also pointing out the fact that the Premier League side have lost their last two games.
“The most important thing is that we believe in ourselves at home with the fans behind us and bring energy into the pitch,” Rose said.
“We want to be brave and face the challenge head on. Well give it a good do and use the opportunity to and use the opportunity to test ourselves against this opposition. We want to cause problems for City in certain areas and keep it tight at the back.
“A lot of things need to go our way, but games like this are why we play football it’ll have to be a top performance. We know how good City are and what to expect tomorrow, even though they’ve lost their last two games. We also know we’ll need a bit of luck against a team of their calibre.”
City won a historic treble of the UEFA Champions League, Premier League and FA Cup last season.
It was the first treble in the history of the club. It was also their first UCL trophy.
City are currently second in Group G of the 2023/24 UEFA Champions League with three points after matchday one.
Leipzig are in first place with three points from the same number of matches.
Leipzig beat Young boys 3-1 on September 19 in their first Champions League game this season.
