Former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou has thrown his support behind Israel Adesanya to defeat current middleweight champion Dricus Du Plessis in their title fight at UFC 305 in Perth, scheduled for 3 AM (WAT) on Sunday, August 18, 2024.
Adesanya, a former two-time UFC middleweight champion, burst into tears during their press conference on Friday, August 16 after Du Plessis accused fighters with African descent of neglecting their roots.

The South African asserted that the belts won by Francis Ngannou, Kamaru Usman, and Adesanya were not legitimate victories for the continent, claiming that he is the true “African fighter” in the UFC.
Consoling Adesanya ahead of the fight tonight, Ngannou, who is set to return to MMA in a fight against 2023 Professional Fighters League (PFL) heavyweight champion Renan Ferreira on October 19, encouraged him to remain focused.
“The world belongs to those who believe; tonight, it’s all yours, my brother,” Ngannou wrote via his ‘X’ (formerly Twitter) on Saturday.
Tensions have flared in anticipation of the fight between Adesanya and Du Plessis tonight.

Can’t wait for Adesanya to pummel this loud-mouthed South African Du-Plessis to submission and get back to the spotlight.
But Kel the guy no lie. Just that he failed to understand that a useless or corrupt Nigeria will not enable Israel or Joshua to realise their potential. Anyways we wish Israel well tonight….
