Uzoho Set For Lengthy Layoff After Horrific Injury Vs Brazil

Nigeria goalkeeper Francis Uzoho is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines after suffering anterior ligament injury in Sunday’s friendly against Brazil, reports Completesports.com.

Uzoho sustained the injury in the 62nd minute of the game after landing awkwardly in his attempt to save a goal-bound cross.

The 20-year-old was eventually replaced by debutant Maduka Okoye after a brief delay.

Uzoho , according to reports in Cyprus where he plays for Omonia Nicosia, could be out for up to six months as a result of the setback.

He will now miss Nigeria’s 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualfifying fixtures against Benin and Lesotho next month.

He has made five appearances and kept three clean sheets this season for Omonia Nicosia who occupy second position in the Cypriot First Division.

So sorry for this man.. When he finally gets game game for his club and stamping authority as super eagles number one, injury comes to limits his progress. Anyway how many of us notice the new goal keeper foot work, his ball distribution was good, he prefers playing from the back rather than shooting out which uzoho prefers.
This new boy is so lucky, by Jan he would get a clubside who would want to him to play for them as being a super eagles number one is already an attractive prospect.. The future is bright

Really sad indeed for this young goaltender who is on the rise again after a turbulent year or so.
News emanating suggests he’s out for 36 weeks. So in this case we need a first choice goalminder to at least do the job until the reliable Uzoho is back.
Looking at the options we have at the moment we are really short either in quality and experience. It’s not looking good,we are in a dire situation but it’s not one without solution with the right scouting or decisions from variable options available.
Our league has been in redundancy for the past four months and going.Several postponements has brought bad omens to our football progress, our clubs are getting beaten because players are lacking fitness. This has also affected our domestic eagles who has been posting bad results even against weaker oppositions. In that case a local goaltender cannot be trusted to stand between the sticks so our searchlights beam turns to Europe and within the continent.
Daniel Akpeyi is not a popular choice and has been ostracised from the team by officials after letting the country down in the wake of the last gap free kick by Mahrez which apparently, break our hearts and sent us packing at the semi-final stages of the last Afcon in Egypt. The gaffer blamed Akpeyi for bad positioning. From that comment,Akpeyi may have been banished from the team.Experienced and in form Akpeyi has not had a look in since the last nations cup which may confirm his future invitations may be bleak.
However, looking at the options we have i reckon Akpeyi is in place to stand between the sticks until Uzoho is back.In my opinion Akpeyi is a decent goalkeeper who is having a good season. His team is the runaway leaders and he’s is posting good shift’s week in and out and obviously the fittest goalkeeper we have at the moment. So will Rohr invite Akpeyi against Benin and Lesotho?well it’s left to be seen.
Aside the much maligned Akpeyi, there are very little or lean options to choose from within Europe and beyond.
It’s not looking great, but we trust the gaffer to find a solution.
    Clock is ticking!

At the moment….love in or loathe him, Akpeyi might just be the go to guy to man our goal till Francis is back. The guy has been consistent for Kaizer Chiefs since the beginning of the season and has been named MOM 3 times already this season.

Otherwise, Okoye looks quite decent to me. Though he wasnt testes that much against Brazil, but he showed he has the basics of goalkeeping…..decision making, aerial ability, footwork, positioning. At no point did he cut a figure of a fray nerved person all through the Brazilian Onslaught…unlike Akpeyi who is perpetually looking perplexed even against soft opposition.

It is Benin and Lesotho we are playing, not Senegal and Algeria……Okoye to me seems to be capable….at least we have seen a bit of him against almighty Brazil. We dont seem to have any friendlies lined up within the next 6 months for us to test him again.
