Former Nigerian international Fatai Amao has lauded the Super Falcons’ 1-0 victory over Zambia in the ongoing 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
Having lost their opening game to Malawi 3-2 on Tuesday, Nigeria needed a victory to push the team back into contention for the knockout stages, and it was well delivered.

Asisat Oshaola converted in the 8th minute after her initial effort, which was saved and luckily bounced back onto her feet and went in.
Reacting after the game, Amao, in a chat with Completesports.com, stated that the team gave a big statement of intent with the win against Zambia.
“It’s a big relief to see the Super Falcons overcome Zambia after that shocking loss to Malawi in the opening game.

“This victory will definitely boost the confidence of the players ahead of their final group game against Egypt.

It is a big relief for all patriotic Nigerians as 10-woman resolute and resilient Super Falcons beat the fit and energetic 11 women Copper Queens of Zambia to revive hope of knockout WAFCON football and possible WC qualification and successful defence of their title. SF proved they are a 10stars quality team and are worth the crown of African 10 times undisputable Champions of African women football for a reason.
Again the savvy coach, Justin Madugu, served the Zambian Swiss coach, Nora Häuptle “cold breakfast” twice within a calendar year in 2 competive Wafcon matches- this time more sweeter, even though with a lesser margin than last years thumping 5-0 defeat. You don’t get awarded the African women coach of the year 2025 and get Ballon d’or coach nomination of the year- the only African, African team tutored Coach to do so, if you cannot make a good, tasty sauce of decent football.
Again Madugu has proved the hate-filled, negativity spinners and doubters wrong with his disciplined organisation, composure of a resilient SF, making right decisions at the right times, with reshuffle and changes in personnel, in a very difficult encounter with one woman short against the energetic and rampant Zambian women.
That two-mouthed, double-speaking nay-sayer, and his pessimist and Nigerian negativity likes, can go back to their hiding holes and wait for another bad news of Madugu’s team getting a draw or defeat before they come out of their shells- but I bet the fake “Dr” it will be a very long wait this time around!
