Waldrum Invites Oshoala, Ordega, Ajibade , 20 Others For Turkish Women’s Cup

Waldrum Invites Oshoala, Ordega, Ajibade , 20 Others For Turkish Women’s Cup

Reigning African champions Nigeria will land in Antalya on Monday to participate in the fifth edition of the Turkish Women’s Cup taking place 15th – 24th February.

It is the first run-out for the Super Falcons, who reached the Round of 16 at the 8th FIFA Women’s World Cup finals in France in the summer of 2019, since being shockingly edged out of the race for the Tokyo Olympics by Cote d’Ivoire penultimate autumn.

It is also the first call of new Head Coach, American Randy Waldrum, with the squad he is expected to mould into credible competitors for honours at global level.

Ukraine, Serbia, India, Bulgaria, Uzbekistan and Equatorial Guinea are among teams confirmed so far for the 10-day tourney, though Tokyo Olympics-bound Zambia have pulled out for undisclosed reasons.

Nine-time African champions Nigeria and Equatorial Guinea’s Nzalang Nacional have been lumped into the same pool alongside Uzbekistan, with the Guineans handed an opportunity to address a 6-0 spanking by the Nigerians in the group phase of the 2018 Women Africa Cup of Nations finals in Ghana.

Also known as the Alanya Gold City Cup, the tournament ranks as one of the more notable events on the women’s football calendar worldwide.

The Falcons will aim to become the first African side to triumph at the tournament, following the third pplace finish by Ghana’s Black Queens last year. Chile won the trophy with Hungary as runner-up.

Poland (2017) and France (2018 and 2019) are the other previous winners of the Alanya Gold City Cup.

Nigeria’s Head Coach Waldrum has invited 23 players, mostly from the group that reached the Round of 16 at the World Cup in France, including goalkeepers Tochukwu Oluehi and Chiamaka Nnadozie, defenders Onome Ebi and Chidinma Okeke, midfielders Rita Chikwelu, Ngozi Okobi-Okeoghene and Halimatu Ayinde, and forwards Gift Monday, Rasheedat Ajibade and Asisat Oshoala.

  • And thus the journey begins. Head Coach, American Randy Waldrum has inherited a team that are the current African Champions and World Cup second rounders. The brand of football under Thomas Dennerby wasn’t always convincingly effective. He managed to win the Afcon by the skin of his girl’s teeth and had others to thank for Super Falcons scraping through to the world cup round of 16 (where his girls were soundly spanked by Germany).

I will be interested to see what Head Coach, American Randy Waldrum has to offer starting with this Turkey Invitational tournament.

It is nice to see dashing winger Esther Sunday back in the fold. But I wonder if she still has the firepower of 7 years ago in her feet.

    • Omo9ja 3 years ago

@Deo, can you please rephrase that?

Coach Thomas Dennerby wasn’t always convincingly effective. He managed to win the Afcon title but Oga Rohr that is elegant won Bronze?

How many months he spends with the team?

He managed Super Falcons to win the Afcon and he did his best at the world cup within the short of period.

He took Ajibade to the world cup and used in one of the matches we played.

However, compared to Oga Rohr that refused to use Simy, Onyekuru and other. Come on deo.

TB “scraping through to the world cup round of 16” while Mr. Failed to getting out of the group and Argentina knocked Nigeria out of the tournament and Nigerians eyes opened wella.

Now, can you tell me my dear Deo, who would you called the hero between TB GR?

Our world class coach still expecting Ighalo to do wonders while we have young talented strikers available?

I have no time to talk today. Ire o. God bless Nigeria!!!

      • Omo9ja my brother sir, this is about women’s football. For once, let’s leave Gernot Rohr out of the conversation, I beg you.

        Do have a pleasant weekend.

      • Dr. Drey 3 years ago

Hahahahahaha….LMAO…Omo9ja see ya life. See as @deo tactically tell you say leave me out of your nonsense arguements….LMAO.

Your Denerby met Falcons @ no 1 in Africa but could only manage to win 2 matches at AWCON…..just 2 matches….lolz. He needed 4 other teams and Lara of Chile to loose her 93rd minute penalty for us qualify for R16 of the world cup as the worst of the 4 best loosers and you want to come here and rant your usual rhetorics….LMAO. You think if there was best looser too in 2018 WC, the SE wouldnt have been in R16…? Lolz.
He met us in no 38 on the world FIFA rankings and left us in no 39 and struggling to beat even teams in Africa and you want us to build a statue for him…? AWCON that we used to win yafun yafun by blowing teams away till we win the trophy, we were playing goalless draws in a whole 120 minutes of football (with our keeper saving us many times from being embarrassed) and relying on the naivety of our opponents from the penalty spot to scale through semifinals and final. Infact we even used our Falcons B team to conquer Africa in 2003 all Africa games when the A team was simultaneously at the WC. If any coach was a waste of money it was your Dennerby.

@Deo’s response was the best for you……top notch…hehehehehe

Mumu see your life you think you actually gave an answer. One who won trophy vs one who won nothing. You have the big mouth to defend the one who won nothing and has not won a match for more than a year. You are a son of a bitch I tell you to your face for this level of stupidity you exhibit in a public space and a shame to the Doctor family idiot gerraway.

            Hahahahaha…..who let this dog out…???
You have not given us your usual “stupidity is far better than senselessness” of late. Dem never give you food chop of late ehn…ndo oh…sorry? LMAO. Human beings are commenting, even animal too wants to join….LMAO.

The super falcons lack good midfielders like the super eagles. Since the retirement of pepetua nkocha, kikolome ajayi, and stella mbachu our midfield is nolonger solid. I will advice the new coach to balance the midfield by drafting ordega into the number ten role while the likes of okobi and chikwelu should pair behind her in the midfield, to allow ajibade and kanu operates from the wings while oshoala strikes upfront. Dernerby failed to recorgnice that ordega have the strenght, experience and skills to join ngozi and chikwelu in that midfield, the midfield was the problem of that wcup team, the defends and attack was good enough but the midfield needs seriouse improvement. The likes of mary ajayi and cortney dike should come back to the team.

    • Wow, very sweet and succinct contribution Collins. Thanks so much.

@deo. Thanks bro, its a pleasure

    • Dr Simone Toto 3 years ago

I am surprised you all bought the idea of Collins, who says Nkwocha or Ajayi were midfielders? Wonders will never end I have said it that majority of the guys on this forum are bunch of jamboree just a few have the real eyes for football here. Ordega winger too should play ten thank God you are not a coach. You talk like the real home based coaches.

Let us take up the cause of Desire Oparanozie. She is in form and was the last captain and is being denied a call up as punishment for fighting for her team mates when the thieves in the NFA refused to pay the girls their due. As a society, if we remain silent while the thief deprives the owners of their rights we become accomplices in the crime. #ISTANDWITHDESIREOPARANOZIE

but omonja what is your problem with this man called ROHR?….while the issue is about women football you still brought GERNOT ROHR into it…..the last time when the greatest world cup miss issue that happened in 2010 came up,you nd your cohorts brought GERNOT ROHR into it…….its like the man’s existence nd as coach of nigeria is spelling DOOMS into your lives

He wan compare person wey meet Falcons as undisputed and undisputable AWCON defending champions and 38 in the world with person wey meet Eagles at no 70 in world and unable to even qualify for ordinary AFCON back to back. Make e continue in comparison of person wey inherit completed building with person wey start from foundation…LMAO

Lol@ lanre, I said it here that mr rohr is beginning to drive omo9ja mad. Realistically speaking, it seems to true! What has rohr got to do with women’s football for heaven’s sake?! That guy has gone nuts!!!!

    • Omo9ja 3 years ago

@Lanre, “but omonja what is your problem with this man called ROHR”?

Basically, my problem with Mr. Rohr is all about Nigeria.

My problem with GR is about you and I.

My problem with Oga Rohr is all about Nigeria image sir.

As you called me ómó9ja, that tells us that I put Nigeria first not individuals.

This is why Nigerians pledged to this nation through God and we asked God to lead us through.

Have you forgotten this @Mr. Lanre?

“I pledge to Nigeria my Country · To be faithful, loyal and honest · To serve Nigeria with all my strength. To defend her unity · And uphold her honour and glory · So help God!”

Did you guys uphold her honour by bully patriotic Nigerians that telling the truth about Nigeria? Yes or no sir?

This is the reason why I can never, hmm. I repeat, I can never betrayed our beloved country, Nigeria .

If I may ask you gentleman, is our leaders serving this country well?

Are you, deo, Dr. Drey, Oakfield and the rest of you serving this our country well as we all pledged to our country from the beginning our journey in this country?

Moreover, NFF president Mr. Amaju, Nigeria president, Mr. Muhammad Buhari and all the leaders of this nation including the majority citizens of this nation are doing something wrong against our country after swearing to her own nation but only we 1 percent minority still having the fear of God in our minds to do the right thing by telling people in charge of the authority the truth about Nigeria.

That includes sports, resources, security and infrastructure. Everything about Nigeria should be our number onr priority but it is very sad that I am not seeing that great spirit in us anymore.

Instead, we are all praising our oppressors so that we can get something from them forgetting that destiny can never be changed.

We are coming on CSN every day just because of our lovely country Nigeria right? If that is the main reason, I think I have a right to tell Oga Rohr to do more and stop misusing the resources of our country just anyhow.

Late Keshi did not have this set of players during his time but he managed to something meaningful for Nigeria.

Omogbemi did not have time to prepared her team but she managed to to win something tangible for Nigeria.

Hmmm. TB was new to the African football but he still managed to win Gold medals for Nigeria .

This is where the Name “Oga Rohr came to this @Lanre.

Deo is my friend and he is a knowledgeable person which is the main reason I love him too much but I’m very shocked and disappointed about what he said above and he knew what exactly what he was trying to insinuate there.

I think Mr. TB definitely deserves a class from my lovely friend Deo.

As a Nigerian if I see something wrong in our sports most especially, “football” I have no choice but to speak up.

Long story short @Lanre, do you think what Deo said above about TB should be ignored?

Putting the Innocent man down unnecessarily upon winning the Afcon title, Chan title and also made it to the round of 16 within the short of period he spent with Falcons?

Now, he said we are talking about the Female national team and GR name shouldn’t have be included while he forgot that it’s all about Nigeria?

Look at the way Deo, Dr. Drey, Oakfield, Ayphillydegreat and their company doing on this forum, that is a typical example of our politicians in this country.

Nigeria can be fixed in less than 10 years but because our oppressors are milking from Nigeria , they have turning the country to a business center.

Whoever that is trying to fix the problem of Nigeria will definitely be in trouble. Omoyele Showore for example.

Amunike and Finidi are the other examples. They are trying to solve our national teams problem but NFF are turning their backs to them. Isn’t interesting huh?

Furthermore, that is why you are seeing Oga Rohr followers kicking against me omo9ja and others that believed that the football in this country is not running quite well under Mr. Amaju Pinnick administration.

Although, he started well but along the lines he decided to enriched his pocket and people around him like Mr. Sheyi, Deko and others.

The similar example of that is Oga Rohr followers on this platform. Supporting each another on bad things about Nigeria by putting their personal interests over Nigeria and you don’t see anything wrong in that Oga Lanre?

TB worked with an empty stomach to achieved what Mr. Deo called,

“The brand of football under Thomas Dennerby wasn’t always convincingly effective”

NFF has refused to pay the coach his salary that owed to TB. Still NFF went ahead to hired another foriegn coach instead of getting one of the ex female players on board to manage the team.

If our female ex players are not good enough, NFF can invest lot of money in this and in the end it will yield great results for our country.

Enough said, NFF won’t do it because we don’t want our people there. They preferred foriegn managers in charge of our national teams simply because of money they are getting from them.

Nigeria of nowadays is totally different to 90s. This new generation won’t take it easy with our oppressors.

Nonetheless, apart from Westerhof and Jo Bonfrere, is there any other foriegn manager won Nigeria something tangible?

Our local coaches won Afcon silver medals and Bronze medals that is why we don’t Valued Silver and Bronze medals anymore and the purpose of hiring foreign coaches is to win something that our local coach and ex players have never won for Nigeria before.

      Hmm. Am I communicating @Lanre?
Is Mr. Rohr capable of doing that? TB that managed to achieve something is the one Oga deo is putting down like this and you wanted me to keep quiet?

You can’t tell me that you are happy with the situations of the Super Eagles and Super Falcons. Are you?

I will keep doing my very best to liberate you people from Nigerian oppressors and carbals. I’m sorry, we have to be optimistic with ourselves. We can’t continue this way period. Ire o. God bless us all. God bless Nigeria!!!

for the first time in over 4 years i agree with you omo9ja over this your comment but i must say you are very smart, you are able to garnish both football and politics together and make your case look very sweet and interesting i hail you …. but the fact is that TB won something for Nigeria no matter how he won it and how he scrabble to win it …. he won something unlike the super eagles manager that has spent more years and wasting tax payers money …. i am a fan of Rohr but he need to win something now so that his name will be written in God like other whites who won something for us …. time is ticking fast…super Eagles will be great again.

  • There are two or so complete new faces among the invitees,Payne and George to be precise. And I have gone to check them out on the field of play too.Another two of the invitees will be making their senior team debut and plays professional football. These should add a bite to the team.Personally, I feel that NFF should have retained Florence Omagbemi and probably the story would have been differenttoday.

Onome Ebi and Ordega Francisca have been clubless for months now. Only doing fashion on Instagram and attending parties yet they get invited. No one is saying anything. Abeg No one should say anything if Oga Rohr chooses Musa for the March qualifiers oo!

  • Collins id 3 years ago

@toto, most midfielders you are celebrating today where once wingers, debrone, ronaldinho, okocha, kaka, iniesta, schweinsteiger, silva, mata, iwobi, eze, robihno, ozil. etc, where all wingers in their early days and some shuffle between AM and Wings. they are the best 10 you know today. You only know football via media and gossip, i am not talking from imaginations i am talking from experience, a good winger will play the number 10 role far better than converting DM to AM, like they do in africa. victor moses, samuel kalu, ahmed musa, saka, lookman, these kind of wingers can do well in the AM if given little time to adapt, you dont need four head in that pisition. You need quick foots, good control and movement of the ball, left and right usage of the ball, good passer and runner with the ball and an added four site to see your best options before your oponents.

  • Hi Nigeria Bebeto,

Permit me for saying this: you are not asking the right questions regarding Thomas Dennerby.

Rather than the angle to which you are approaching it from, a more apposite question would be, did Thomas Dennerby take tNigeria to where we had never attained before?

The answer is ‘A resounding No’.

Afcon: we usually won the Afcon prior to Thomas Dennerby’s dispensation. Most times, we won it with relative ease. Under Dennerby, we had to limp to the finish line after our opponents were unlucky with their penalty kicks.

World Cup: we had qualified for the knockout stages before and when we did, it was as one of the best 2 teams from our group. Under Dennerby, we qualified only just. It took not one, not two but multiple permutations for us to just about scale through. And when we got through to the second round? I stopped watching the match after Germany scored their second goal. It was going to be too painful for me to witness the inevitable third goal.

    Are these progress?

Fifa Rankings: like Dr Drey helpfully highlighted above, we even regressed by 1 point after Dennerby’s reign came to its denouement.

So, it is caricature to compare Rohr’s reign with Dennerby. It is just silly.

Rohr took a team in tatters and transformed it to one that is tenacious with tantalising prospects.

Rohr divides opinions, the man is like marmite: you either like or dislike is methodologies.

It is right to criticise Rohr but when we do, I think we should do this within the right context and with arguments that will not depreciated the good works he has done for the Super Eagles.

    • My only worry with Gernot Rohr is that I think his might have reached his apogee when it comes to his managerial capabilities and how far he can take the Super Eagles. Past successes aren’t necessarily a guarantee for future ones with recent results eroding my confidence in him even further. But, all these are just my suppositions, mere conjectures – I might be entirely wrong. I pray I am entirely wrong because I want to see the Super Eagles make progress and win medals regardless of who is at the helms.

      Nigeria First!

    • Chima E Samuels 3 years ago

@Deo you are right about your submission, i personally almost had heart attack during the AWCON but we prevailed on penalties. I hope this new coach will give us an exciting football and trophies with little or no heart attack. It’s being a long time Nigerians experienced beautiful football and trophies both at male and female level.

I will judge him after watching 3 of his matches but these days it is hard to comment on CS because of too many disrespect, wrong readings to ones opinion and division to the extent that you get bait with much hate from just anyone all in the name of faction. Sports interaction for me is fast loosing its value except for some day to day good exploits from very few players that brings smiles to the face.

@Dr Simone take am easy the drey you are seeing today has always been like this you can’t change how he misinterprets people. I think it’s voluntary so kindly let him have his space. You can peacefully contribute without going at him. If possible just ignore him so the forumites will have their peace as the two of you and other doctors are really making a mockery of your profession. Doctors are highly regarded so keep peace and respect your values!

      • Dr Simone Toto 3 years ago

@Samuels Save yourself the advice that guy doesn’t respect himself like you. A doctor will not behave this way, Mr Samuels I like you very much even though I don’t agree with all you say but I like your honesty and standing your ground. Drey need to tender an apology to people in this group for always being too manipulating. This is disgusting and abuse of our professional code of conduct.

      • Thanks Chima. Nice to read from you again.

    • KENNETH 3 years ago

With all due respect due. Before dennerby came in the female teams were already finding it difficult to beat other African countries, most especially South Africa, and equatorial guinea. Bros many countries are now improving in the women games. Low fancied teams are now springing up. Same can be said about the men. Who thought we could beat Burundi by just one goal, the expectations were that we would beat them more than 5 nil. And Madagascar that defeated us wasn’t that a shocker.
