Ward Hopeful Of Chance To Save Bluebirds

Danny Ward hopes he can be the answer to Cardiff City’s goal scoring issues after finally shaking off his injury problems.

Only Huddersfield have netted fewer times than the Bluebirds this season in the Premier League with the Welsh outfit finding the back of the net 25 times in 29 games thus far.

Bobby Reid and Callum Paterson are currently Cardiff’s joint-highest goalscorers with four each but Ward is hopeful he will get a chance to surpass the duo in the final months of the campaign.

The 27-year-old has only started three league games during an injury-plagued season, making 11 appearances in total, and has scored once in the top-flight so far this term.

Ward says that despite their lack of goals and three straight defeats, the spirit within the dressing room remains high and is confident they can collect enough points over the remainder of the campaign to avoid relegation. “We’ve got nine games left and we just have got to give it absolutely everything,” Ward told BBC Sport.

“We spoke about last season when we had a bit of a sticky pitch and it looked like promotion was fading away when suddenly you know we kicked in a good run of games. “It shows just how that confidence can build and you can carry it in to the next game. “I think with the spirit that we’ve got in the team we’ll get the job done.”
