Bubba Watson will defend his WGC-Match Play title this week but admits he is no great fan of the event. The 40-year-old thrashed fellow American Kevin Kisner 7&6 to lift the trophy 12 months ago at Austin Country Club and is back at the Texas venue looking for his first win of the season.

The left-hander has claimed 12 PGA Tour titles in total, including a couple of Green Jackets at the Masters, with the Augusta showpiece now just a couple of weeks away. His last success came in the 2018 Travelers Championship – one of three wins last year – and it seems his Match Play crown is not his favourite.
“I vote every year not to have Match Play because I feel like I have a better chance in 72 holes than I do in individual (matches),” he said. “Because we have seen every year a guy shoot in the 60s and lose, and then we see a guy shoot in the 70s and win. And it’s like, wait a second, how fair is this?” Watson said.
