‘We Want To Prove A Point Against Mexico’ —Iwobi

Everton forward Alex Iwobi has said both foreign and local based players are eager to prove a point in the Super Eagles, as they get set set to fave Mexico in an international friendly game on Saturday.

After missing the 2022 World Cup qualifying playoffs with the Black Stars of Ghana, Iwobi is making a return to the team.

The former Arsenal player recently helped Everton avoid relegation to the English Championship.

And speaking ahead of the friendly against Mexico, Iwobi said every player is giving 100 per cent in training and hopes for a positive result.

“Everybody is psyched up for the game, it’s another opportunity to represent your country,” Iwobi said in an interview on NFF TV.

“It’s been a while I’ve been playing because obviously I missed the World Cup qualifiers but I’m back again.

“It’s not just me that is hungry, the local players are hungry to prove a point so we are going to represent and do our best for the country hopefully we will get the result that we want.

“It’s been very good everyone is here to impress and everyone is giving 100 per cent. It’s our first time with the new coach and the staff, we are warming into their ideas but it’s still early stages but we are enjoying our time so far, we just have to make sure it continues this way to keep this unity and chemistry going.”

After today’s friendly, the Eagles will also face Ecuador on June 2nd.

Alexander the Great. You are doing well this season. Just continue this attitude and it shall be well with you. Heaven bless Iwobi and all deserving Super Eagles players. Lolzzzz ZA ZA

  • I come from Brazil. Coach Preseiro has a point to prove in this encounter. A win will put him in a good stead. Good luck S.Eagles. Twei.

With a depleted squad winning against a side like Mexico in the USA where they will get a huge support will be a heculean task.
Though, never say never you never know with football. The home based could strike a good understanding with their foreign counterparts,we hope so.
Meanwhile,it’s interesting to see a new coach especially his first game, his formation, the way he gives instructions to his players on the sidelines,we look forward to all this a win or draw against Mexico should be a good sign of many good things to happen as the gaffer of the super eagles.
    Fingers crossed…

As we watch the game bear in mind the following: 1. Are we able to keep possession in the opponents half for a good period?

    2. Are there players/strikers who are bold to face the opponents goal instead of a backward- sideways pass?

    3. Do they cover up for each other? How fast do we track back when under pressure. This is the greatest weakness of the Super Eagles. Many more questions as we watch the Super Eagles in the next 4 matches and more.

That is why players with complex, that melts where they meet oyinbo, should not be near the super eagles. We need players with quality.players that are willing to take on any opponents with force and teach them how we do. Players with tactical discipline and showmanship like okocha, amokachi and kanu….players with flares and hearts like osihmen and odion ighalo, the two Simons…yes!! Odemwingie etc … like Dennis… players that are just happy to run down the opponent with tactical discipline and team cohesion…
