Woodburn Seals Oxford Move

Liverpool forward Ben Woodburn has joined Oxford United on a season-long loan deal. The 19-year-old Wales international, who can also play on the wing, spent time on loan at Sheffield United last season but struggled for regular action with the Blades and had hoped to impress Reds boss Jurgen Klopp over the summer and force his way into his first-team plans.

However, he has been allowed out to League One side Oxford ahead of the new season. Woodburn told Oxford’s website: “I spoke to (head coach) Karl (Robinson) and he has done well with previous younger players in the past. “Obviously I know (Liverpool Academy graduate) Cam Brannagan (who joined Oxford last year), so I think it is a good fit for me in my career at this moment in time. “I think it’s a stepping stone that I need to push on. ”

It’s a great league, it’s a tough league and I’ve just got to show what I can do in these games and hopefully show my quality.” Robinson added: “Ben is a talented lad who we are excited to bring into the building for the season. “He has a lot of experience for his age at Liverpool and with the Welsh national team so we are absolutely delighted to bring in a player of his quality and are looking forward to being a part of his development.”
