South Africa head coach Hugo Broos praised his side’s resilience and overall performance after they battled to a draw with Czechia, Completesports.com reports.
Bafana Bafana held Miroslav Koubek’s side to a 1-1 draw in their second Group A game at
the Atlanta Stadium on Thursday night.
Just as they did against Mexico in their opening match, South Africa conceded early, with Michal Sadilek finding the net after six minutes.
Adam Hlozek crossed from the right and Alexandr Sojka’s released Sadilek, who lashed it past Williams.
Czechia appeared set to hold out for victory until Pavel Sulc was penalised for handball 10 minutes from time.
Teboho Mokoena calmly converted from the penalty spot, sending Matej Kovar the wrong way to earn South Africa a share of the spoils.
Broos Proud Of Bafana Bafana
Broos was delighted with his side’s display in the hard-fought contest.
“I’m very proud of my team. This is Bafana Bafana – we love good football, we are aggressive, we create chances. Yes, we made mistakes, but I’m very proud of the performance today,” Broos was quoted by FIFA.com
“Czechia are powerful and very tall. We did very well. It’s a little bit of a pity that it’s only 1-1, but we just have to win the game against Korea Republic, which will be very difficult too. If we play with the same mentality, it will be possible.”
