Egypt goalkeeper Mostafa Shobeir says the Pharaohs are highly motivated to give their all and fight until the final whistle when they face Argentina in the FIFA World Cup 2026 round of 16.
The upcoming face-off against Lionel Messi’s Argentina follows a massive milestone for the Pharaohs, who reached the World Cup knockout rounds for the first time.

Recall that Hossam Abdelmaguid scored the winning penalty as Egypt made history by beating a dogged Australia 4-2 on penalties to reach the last 16 on Friday.
Speaking after the game, Egypt goalkeeper Mostafa Shobeir said: “It was Egyptian ‘grinta’ (grit), it’s something in our genetics, it’s something amazing.
“We fight until the end, even the next game, even if we play more games, we’re going to fight until the end. Even if we have shortages in some places because we have a lot of injuries.
“We fight until the end for the fans, for the country and for ourselves.”
Shobeir added: “History is written. We can’t believe that we did this to achieve this level.

“Since the first day for us here, we spoke with each other that we will not come here to play only the group stage and go back home.
“We tried our best and then luck was with us. Of course, God gave us a lot and we appreciate that and we hope to continue more.”
Egypt became the second African country to advance to the last 16 of the tournament alongside Morocco.
