Lautaro Martinez’s goal was enough to rescue Inter Milan a point in the team’s 1-1 draw against Monterrey in Wednesday’s Group E game of the 2025 Club World Cup.
Veteran Spanish star Sergio Ramos scored on a stunning first-half header for Monterrey, delighting the decidedly pro-Mexico crowd in Southern California for Monterrey coach Domènec Torrent’s own debut.
Lautaro Martínez evened it late in the first half for Inter, but the Champions League finalists couldn’t generate a second goal despite having nearly 62% possession, while Monterrey got only one shot on target.
Martínez thought he scored again in the 68th minute but was offside. Both teams narrowly missed goals in the final minutes, and Martínez picked up a yellow card in second-half injury time.

Inter Milan will face Urawa Red Diamonds on Saturday, while Monterrey will tackle River Plate.
In the other Group E game, River Plate netted a trio of headers to defeat Urawa Red Diamonds 3-1 on Tuesday in the teams’ Group E opener of the Club World Cup in Seattle.
Facundo Colidio struck first for Argentina’s River Plate with a header in the 12th minute, assisted by a precise cross from Marcos Acuna. River Plate doubled its lead shortly after halftime with a goal by Sebastian Driussi.
Japan’s Urawa Red Diamonds cut the deficit to 2-1 with a 58th-minute penalty kick converted by Yusuke Matsuo, but Maximiliano Meza quickly regained River Plate’s two-goal lead in the 73rd minute.
