Former Manchester United star Roy Keane has advised England striker Harry Kane to conserve his energy and stay high up the pitch as a traditional center-forward instead of dropping deep to act as a playmaker at the 2026 World Cup.
Keane stressed that extreme heat and fatigue will be massive factors at the World Cup, making it unwise for Kane to waste energy dropping into the midfield.
Speaking on ITV, the Irishman stated that Kane’s experience should help him manage his workload and ensure he remains fresh during the biggest moments.

“He has to have that experience now, and maybe he’s learnt a lot more playing for Bayern in those big Champions League games.
“Be smart enough with your position. Even for the goal, New Zealand have lots of players back, but he’s just wandered in there. Just that experience, but its amazing they gave him so much space.
“But with that experience, he’s got to be sensible, we’re talking about the conditions. He doesn’t need to be coming back beyond the halfway line trying to spray balls, there’s enough players who can do that and enough quality, you get yourself in there, you’re the best in the world at this moment in time.
“If England want to win the big trophy, he’s going to be your main man.”

Kane arrives at the competition in sensational form after enjoying the most prolific season of his career with Bayern Munich, where he shattered records and strengthened his growing reputation as one of the world’s elite forwards.
The 32-year-old enhanced his credentials again on Saturday night when he scored the only goal in England’s 1-0 victory over New Zealand in Tampa, continuing his remarkable international goalscoring record.
