With the 14th edition of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON 2026) set to take place in Morocco from 25 July to 16 August 2026, Nigeria’s Super Falcons will once again arrive as the continent’s benchmark in women’s football.
The reigning champions will be aiming to defend their crown, secure a record-extending 11th continental title, and book one of the four automatic qualification places for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.

Most WAFCON Title Wins
Nigeria’s Super Falcons hold the record for the most Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) titles.
Since the maiden edition in 1998, held in Nigeria, the Super Falcons have won 10 titles in the 13 editions staged.
The Super Falcons won the first five tournaments — 1998, 2000, 2002, 2004 and 2006 — before also emerging champions in 2010, 2014, 2016, 2018 and 2024.
Most Goals Scored At A WAFCON Tournament
The Super Falcons are the team with the most goals scored in a single edition of the WAFCON.
Under the late Ismaila Mabo, the Super Falcons netted 28 goals in the inaugural tournament in 1998 on home soil.
In their opening group game against Morocco, the Super Falcons won 8-0 before recording 6-0 victories over DR Congo and Egypt to progress to the semi-finals.
In the semi-final against Cameroon, the Super Falcons secured another 6-0 victory before defeating Ghana 2-0 in the final.

Most Goals Scored In The WAFCON Group Stage
The Super Falcons scored 20 goals during the group stage of the 1998 WAFCON hosted by Nigeria.
It remains the highest number of goals scored by a team in the group stage in the history of the tournament.
The Super Falcons put eight goals past Morocco before thrashing both DR Congo and Egypt 6-0.
Biggest Winning Margin At WAFCON
The Super Falcons hold the record for the biggest winning margin in WAFCON history.
They achieved the feat by thrashing Morocco 8-0 in the opening match of the maiden edition in 1998.
Biggest Winning Margin In A WAFCON Final
The Super Falcons recorded the biggest winning margin in a WAFCON final when they hammered Cameroon 5-0 at the 2004 edition in South Africa.
It was the second meeting between both teams at the tournament after their group-stage encounter ended 2-2.
In the final, Perpetual Nkwocha scored four goals, while Vera Okolo added the fifth.
Biggest Deficit Overcome To Win A WAFCON Final
The biggest deficit overcome to win a WAFCON final is two goals, a feat achieved by the Super Falcons in 2024.
Nigeria recovered from 0-2 down to defeat hosts Morocco 3-2 and clinch a record-extending 10th WAFCON title.
Morocco raced into a two-goal lead in the first half before second-half strikes from Esther Okoronkwo, Folashade Ijamilusi and Jennifer Echegini completed a memorable comeback.
Most WAFCON Player Of The Tournament Winners
The Super Falcons have produced the highest number of WAFCON Player of the Tournament winners.
Since the Confederation of African Football (CAF) introduced the award in 2004, Nigerian players have claimed it four times.
Perpetual Nkwocha won the inaugural award in 2004, while Stella Mbachu, Asisat Oshoala and Rasheedat Ajibade claimed the honour in 2010, 2014 and 2024 respectively.
The closest challengers are South Africa with three winners, while Equatorial Guinea, Morocco and Cameroon have produced one Player of the Tournament winner each.
