Griezmann: I’m Desperate To Play Alongside Messi For Barcelona

Barcelona new signing Antoine Griezmann says he can’t wait to step onto the pitch and face opponents as the teammate of superstar Lionel Messi who had described as one of the best players in world football.

Messi was thrilled when Barcelona started making bold moves to bring World Cup winner, Griezmann, from Atletico Madrid. And he described the France international’s qualities in glowing terms as he looked forward to his arrival at Camp Nou.

The forward eventually arrived when Messi was out in Brazil leading Argentina to win 2019 Copa America bronze medal. And he is not part of Barcelona’s current pre-season program outside Spain where new signing Griezmann has started playing for the Ernesto Valverde’s side.

“His (Messi) words made me feel very happy . He’s the best. When he talks, the whole world listens. He knows this,” Griezmann told Sport.

“That he would say that about me made me feel very proud. I insist that I’m desperate to finally play alongside him.

“I want to meet him, get to know him, watch him in training, play alongside him, provide assists. I’ve thought about it when l’m in bed,
at training, and watching videos.

“You make the ‘film in your head and I know it’ll go well. It’ll be really nice.”

On the possibility of making a terrific trio in Barcelona attack with Messi and Luis Suarez, the France forward licks his lips at the prospect of making it work out resourcefully for the club.

“On paper, it sounds really good,” Griezmann admits.

“Later, you have to show it out on the pitch, but I trust us, I trust the team.

“There’s also Ousmane [Dembele], Malcom, Philippe [Coutinho] too. There are a lot osmiled and quality attackers who l’m sure will help
the team do great things.”

Reminded that Neymar may also return to the club, Griezmann smiled and said: “Let’s see what happens, There are a lot of details to a transfer. Neymar is world-class, a top player, so he could fit in at Barca.”
