Africa Tour No.1 Seed Torgah Crashes Out As South-East Shootout Golf Championship Ends

Four-time champion and Ghana top pro golfer, Vincent Torgah has been eliminated from the South-East Shootout Golf Championship which comes to a fitting end today (Saturday) at the Arsenal Golf Course, Obinze, near Owerri, Imo State, Completesports.com reports.

Torgah was shown the exit door by fellow Ghanaian, Kwame Ligbidi.

He was unable to hit the needed qualification hole for the knockout stage of the championship.

After the third round games on Friday, sixteen best golfers emerged for the nine (9) hole stroke knockout match, while the remaining ones crashed out of the tourney.

The Ghanaian number one golf maestro sensationally finished in third round top of the Leader Board with a shocking 14-Par.

He was paired with his compatriot, Kwame Ligbidi, who placed 16th with bookmakers already giving Ligbidi no chance before the nine hole match.

But the 26-year-old Ligbidi proved golf freaks wrong with an impressive drive from the first Tee Box, leading to a Par in the first hole, while Torgah made a Boggy.

By the end of the 4th hole, inspired Ligbidi had made two Pars and two Birdies, moving four shots ahead of already under pressure Torgah, who made three Boggies and a Par.

The young Ghanian golfer did not look back as he finished the night hole seven shots better than Torgah, sending him out of the tourney.

After the nine hole knockout match, eight players made it to the quarter-finals. Saturday is the deal day as the golfers shoot to finish.

Today’s grand finale will feature four (4) matches of nine (9) holes stroke play knockout after which four (4) players will qualify for the semi-finals.

The two semi-final losers will battle for the third place honours before the final game.

Officials did not disclose the prize money but chairman of Africa Tour, Mazi Emeka Okatta, said golf is a money spinning sport where everyone is a winner.

“You earn as much as you progress in the game. You lose out early but still smile home handsomely,” he explained.
