Nigeria won her first gold medal at the 13th African Games thanks to Anuoluwapo Opeyori, in the men’s singles badminton event on Sunday.
Opeyori defeated compatriot Godwin Olofua after coming from a set down to win 2-1.
Both Opeyori and Olofua will return to fight for gold in the men’s doubles final.

The duo of Mercy Genesis and Christiana Ogunsanya each won gold medals in their respective weight categories in women’s wrestling.
Genesis put up a dominant performance against Egypt’s Nada Mohamed to win 7-0 in the final of the women’s 50kg freestyle event.
While Ogunsanya outclassed her Senegalese opponent 11-0 to gold in the women’s 53kg.
