Former international, Julius Aghahowa hopes Eric Chelle will make a positive impact with the Super Eagles.
The former Mali international was named substantive Super Eagles head coach this week.
Chelle’s appointment has divided opinion in the football space in Nigeria.

Aghahowa is however rooting for the former Mali head coach to succeed with the three-time African champions.
“Hopefully, he’ll bring in a different kind of mentality,” Aghahowa told Brila FM.
“We don’t have a talent problem. I would like to see how he impacts the team’s work rate and mentality.
“Our problem has always been the mentality of players coming from their clubs to represent Nigeria.”

Hi everyone, you can never judge a book by it’s cover because the new super Eagles coach everyone is talking about might be the saviour of nigeria soccer ,just like Westerhof did in the early 90’s.
You got it. I think Monsieur Chelle will use this opportunity to make big statements, both for himself and the SE. Have a second look at his photos: sharp focus.
This conversation around the choice of the new Super Eagles’coach
Eric Chelle might not go away so soon with a barage of criticism, especially from the media trailing his emergence.
He’s been branded a low budget – poku lo wo e – by many and his choice seen at some quarters as an affront and embarrassment on Nigeria football that boasts a number of well-known homegrown coaches – Sunday Oliseh, Samson Siasia, Austin Equavoen, George Finidi and Emmanuel Amunike….
To make ridiculous this appointment, the NFF could not deem it fit to organise media conference to address the media on his appointment; an action that reflects poorly on NFF and its administrative style.
For me, coach Eric Chelle has taken a responsible risk accepting the offer given the precarious position of the Super Eagles on the log, occupying the 5th position with 3 points from 4 games. Like Josef Peseiro, he’s given assurances of winning the next AFCON in Morocco. He equally expressed optimism about the chances of the Super Eagles qualifying for the next mundial.
While many might be anticipating the choice and appointment of a world class coach – a white man with the technical astuteness, the reality is that the NFF is broke and do not have financial buoyancy to hire high demand coach.
That being said, it will be in the interest of Nigerian football that the new gaffer be given the right support to succeed.
I believe a coach that’s criticized and talk down on most times perform beyond people’s imagination. People criticize former coach of the super eagles that won afcon for us before the championship, he went on to surprise everyone by lifting the cup. I see good omen with this coach and I believe he will perform.
THOUGH IT IS NOT A THING OF SURPRISE. WE ARE ALREADY IN A COUNTRY WHEREBY INCOMPETENCY IS BEING CONSIDER AS COMPETENCY. SOMEONE THAT DOESN’T HAVE COMMON WAEC CERTIFICATE BEING CONSIDER AS NUMBER ONE LEADER AHEAD OF SOMEONE THAT HAVE PHD. CERTIFICATE AS DEPUTY LEADER.
SOMETIMES ALSO, WE DON’T NEED TO BE DECIEVE/CONFUSE WITH THE HIGH PROFILE NAME OF COACHES BEFORE THEY ARE BEING EMPLOYED.
WHAT IS THE ACHIEVEMENTS OF WESTERHOFF, KESHI, HERVE- RENARD BEFORE THEY ARE BEING EMPLOYED BY NIGERIA( in1989), TOGO,(in 2005), ZAMBIA(in 2007).
WHAT WE NEED FROM ERIC CHELLE IS TACTICAL DISCIPLINE ON THE FIELD OF PLAY & SELECTION WITHOUT SENTIMENT.
MOST NIGERIA COACHES ARE TRIBALISTIC, REGIONISTIC, SENTIMENTAL AND BRIBE-TAKEN.
