Super Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi has disclosed that he opted out of the squad for the Unity Cup and friendlies against Poland and Portugal because of personal reasons.
Recall that the Nigerian international has proven to be a highly effective and clinical striker for Nottingham Forest, marked by a milestone 100th appearance and a crucial brace in a 3-1 away victory over Chelsea.
Despite battling injuries and playing a backup role, his lethal finishing and goal-scoring rate continue to be vital assets for the club.

Reasons For Opting Out Of Eagles Friendlies
Speaking with SportsBoom, Awoniyi stated that he has confidence in the players invited for the games to make a good impact.
“I was supposed to be in the Super Eagles camp, but I opted out because of personal reasons I have to attend to,” Awoniyi said in an interview with SportsBoom.
“We have lots of talents in the Super Eagles, so for me, everyone that is in the team for the June friendlies is as good as me, just as I’m as good as them,” he concluded.
