The Flying Eagles have emerged champions of the 2022 WAFU Zone B tournament in Niger Republic after defeating Benin Republic 3-1 in the final on Friday, Completesports.com reports.
A brace from Tolulope Ojo and a goal from Ibrahim Muhammad sealed the win for Ladan Bosso’s team.
Benin Republic’s consolation goal was scored by Farid Edou late in the game.
The Flying Eagles took the lead in the 40th minute through Ojo who converted from the penalty spot after Mahougnon Aloya stopped a scoring opportunity with his arm. He was also sent off.

In the 70th minute Ojo got his brace as he volleyed past the Benin Republic keeper time make it 2-0.
Muhammad then added the third goal in the 77th minute after capitalizing on an error by the opposition keeper Dava Agossa.
With six minutes left Edou pulled a goal back for the French speaking country but the Flying Eagles held on to emerge winners.
Both Flying Eagles and Benin Republic will represent the WAFU Zone B at next year’s U-20 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.
The continental tournament will serve as the qualifiers for the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Indonesia.

Just when you thought it couldn’t get worse for Ghanaian football in 2022, it just did.
Hot on the heels of their Under 20s making a right mockery of themselves in the recently concluded highly prestigious sub regional WAFU B Cup competition (that Nigeria won in style after taking Ghana to the cleaners in the group stages), they have now been plunged into renewed faux pas.
As reported in Ghanaweb.com (thanks Tony for the link), their under 17s have now been submerged in a hell of their own currupt making due to criminal desperation. Almost half of the team has been sent packing having failed MRI tests. Now, hapless head coach Paa Kwasi has just days to raise a formidable team to reap where they did not sow.
Already, their fans on that ghanaweb.com platform are already wetting their pants at the much dreaded prospects of facing the more highly organized, more illustrious and a very deadly Golden Eaglets of Nigeria in the competition.
One commentator on the platform simply known as Jee wrote: “Are they trying to punish us.we are also facing Nigeria again?mmmm under the same thing.”
Another commentator know as ODS-USA echoed the sentiments about widespread corruption in Ghanaian football when he said:”We Ghanaians are very dishonest and lazy people who want to become rich overnight without a sweat. this laziness and dishonesty shows in every corner of our lives.”
It is hard to see how Ghana can emerge from this scandal. And these sort of self inflicted skirmishes aren’t new to Ghanaian football.
In 2014, after midfielder Kevin Prince Boateng was ignominiously sent packing from the Brazil World Cup after verbally assaulting former coach James Kwesi Appiah, the Berlin born midfielder called the German FA amateurish. More like calling them a shit hole.

I think what you are failing to realise is that, with so much proliferation of international football these days, the impact of missing out of the senior men’s world cup is not as painful as it would have been in, say, 2002.
You see, there is so much international football on offer these days. Definitely we Nigerians would have loved to be in Qatar no doubt, but we still thank God for little mercies.
With the 2 under-age women’s world cup to look forward to and the women’s Afcon, we have ample international football to distract us from the world cup disappointment. Then you have the 2 WAFU under-age tournaments, that makes it no less than 5 tournaments in this calendar year.
Don’t forget, 2023 men’s Afcon will commence this year and we also have friendlies line up across various national teams.
Mind you, despite crashing out of the Afcon in January, we thoroughly enjoyed our ride in the group stages.

Actually, I agree with most of what you wrote which had already been reflected in my epistle above.
Just to reiterate, yes I am disappointed (just like Algerians, Cote d’ivoireans, South Africans and even former world cup winners Italians) to be missing out on the Qatar World Cup.
Also, no other football tournament can rival the world cup in stature.
What I think you are missing is that, unlike 2002 when Nigeria dumped Ghana out of world cup qualification in style, we now have loads of football to take our minds off world cup qualification disappointment.
It is very hard for you to accept the fact that pipping Nigeria to world cup qualification no longer has the impact that it would have have some years back.
Time has moved on, my friend; live with it. I and a couple of friends celebrated our under-40s (as you put it) winning the WAFU Cup. None of us even remotely mentioned the Super Eagles. We were too busy talking about what to expect from the Falcons, Falconets, Flamingos and the Golden Eaglets. The mood was joyous and the atmosphere was filled with optimistism.
In 2002, you Ghanaians had absolutely nothing at all to compensate you for what we did to you that year. Times are very different.
World cup qualification or not, Nigeria remains a tour-de-force in African football.
