Former Manchester City fullback Gael Clichy believes Rayan Cherki has the potential to replace Kevin de Bruyne at the club.
Having joined Manchester City this summer from Lyon for around £30 million, Cherki made a stunning debut with a goal against Wolves before suffering an injury that sidelined him for two months.
Speaking with RMC Sport, the former France international stated Cherki has the ability to fill De Bruyne’s shoes if he’s fit.

“If we talk about the quality of the player, I haven’t seen anyone as good. It’s a big statement, but I really feel that if he can develop his game without the ball, we can talk about a player who can reach Kevin De Bruyne’s numbers.
“In tight spaces and key areas of the pitch he can create danger. And that’s exactly what you want at City.”
But Clichy also sees an area where Cherki needs to improve.
“He has to show that he can perform without the ball. This was his weakness when he was with us in France and that’s what people think of him in England. If Pep (Guardiola) can take him to another level in that game, he will be a huge asset.”
