Cisse Confident Senegal Will Qualify For W/Cup Despite First Leg Defeat To Egypt

Senegal head coach Aliou Cisse is confident the Terangha Lions will book a place at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar despite losing to Egypt on Friday.

A bizarre own-goal from Saliou Ciss in the fourth minute gave Egypt the advantage in the first leg at the Cairo International Stadium.

Cisse’s men must now score two goals without conceding in the second leg at the Stade Me Abdoulaye Wade in Dakar on Tuesday to book a spot in Qatar 2022.

“The Senegal team must keep all its serenity and calm for the return match despite the 1-0 defeat recorded against Egypt since it does not reflect the state of play and this must allow us to be confident for the qualification to the World Cup,” he told the press.

“We have to stay calm and work to improve our efficiency, that’s what was missing in tonight’s game. Egypt only scored on their only chance of the match and we just have to work to be more effective in both legs.

“I am satisfied with the game produced by the players, we must focus on efficiency for the second leg.

“But nothing is lost, we have a second leg to play at home, we have to work with a view to reversing the result. We are confident in our capabilities. We are going to improve and seek the victory that will qualify us for the World Cup.”

  • The four North Africa countries played their first leg away and the four also has 3 away wins and a score draw( Away advantage). What a coincidence….I am just saying…..As it is now, the four are knocking at the world cup door.

Egypt played their 1st leg at home, not away. But it’s still unthinkable that 3 out 4 played their first leg away. Seems they understand the politics of the game more than anyone. May the best qualify for the WC

      • Can you even imagine that 4 of the 5 African WC slots will like be taken by Maghreb/Arab countries (Algeria, Egypt, Morocco & Tunisia), while just one black African country (Nigeria/Ghana) will be in Qatar. It smells like powerful football politics; politics of oil money.

Senegal may not qualify, they will win 2-1 in Dakar, but Egypt will qualify on away goal rule. I said this during the AFCON finals between Egypt and Senegal that whoever wins the AFCON b/w the two will likely miss the world cup.

to be fair on this north teams they won their games fair and square.none of the teams they played against complain abt any unfair officiating. Also i noted great improvement from this north african teams making me to feel they must have truly gone to drawing board after not too impressive afcon outinhg but other african teams only use mouth to talk about drawing board. One last thing noticed is that Senegal have played 270mins of regulation football with nort african teams and they have not been able to score against even one goal against them which makes me wonder how they want to score against egypt now that they must score to cancel and posibly go ahead to win.check out the stats; SEN vs ALG(algeria won by 1 goal)
SEN vs EGY draw after regulation time.
SEN vs EGY egypt won 1 nil .
going by these SEN is on a bad spell playing against nothern africans and a cuurently active lack of goal spell against EGY.
