2022 WCQ: Ekong Admits Super Eagles Players Under Pressure Ahead Ghana Clash

2022 WCQ: Ekong Admits Super Eagles Players Under Pressure Ahead Ghana Clash

William Troost-Ekong has admitted Super Eagles players are under pressure ahead of Tuesday’s crucial second leg World Cup qualifying playoffs against Ghana inside the Moshood Abiola stadium, Abuja.

The Eagles will host the reverse fixture against their eternal rivals and must win to secure qualification for a seventh World Cup appearance.

For the Black Stars a win or a score draw will be enough for the Black Stars to qualify.

In Friday’s first leg fixture Troost-Ekong was part of a resolute backline that kept the Black Stars at bay.

And speaking ahead of the big game on Tuesday, the Super Eagles assistant captain said:”We are always under pressure playing for Nigeria everytime we are putting on the shirt and representing millions. We know how much it means for us and for our families.”

The Watford defender described the first leg result as positive.

“Going to Kumasi and getting a draw I think it wasn’t a bad result and come Tuesday we are hoping to secure the ticket.”

What a blasphemous statement! Because you have chosen to dishonor God because of ordinary football, may your team (Black Stars) never shine again. May you never make it to the World Cup.

  • How come CSN didn’t cover the Falconets impressive world cup qualification this weekend?

    _ Falcons Smash Senegal 7:2 _

After sumptuously sweeping Senegal aside 3:1 in the first leg of this weekend’s last round Under 20 women’s world cup qualifiers, the Falconets knew they were just a heartbeat away from qualification.

And they did the business in their now-infamously ruthless manner by dismantling their Senegalese counterparts 4:1 this Saturday thereby ending the encounter with a truly astonishing 7:2 aggregate to qualify for the World Cup in style.

In the build up to this second leg at the Samuel Ogbemudia stadium, Benin City, the Falconets’ assistant coach Moses Aduku said: “Despite winning in Senegal, we will play like a cup final and finish strongly; we are coming all out from the blast of the whistle.”

And that was exactly what his teenage ladies did as it took only 7 minutes for fabulous Flourish Sebastine to crash the back of the net for Nigeria’s first goal. Even at that, the Falconets already had a goal disallowed in the 5th minute.

With Nigeria well in the driving seat, Sebastian’s daring header in 20 minutes left the Senegal goalkeeper clutching at straws as girls were now effectively being separated from women – 2:0 to Nigeria at that point.

“(This) Nigerian side is more athletically and tactically ready. I have the impression that we do not play in the same age category,” said the Senegalese coach Aicha Ndiaye before this match and to me, she was spot on as her girls and our merciless Falconets are definitely not in the same league.

And the gulf in class continued to be reflected on the pitch after Esther Onyenezide made it 3:0 for Nigeria from the penalty spot in just 25 minutes.

But there was to be a slim route back into the encounter for the Senegalese after their goalkeeper Ndiaye converted a penalty of their own in 45 minutes to make the scoreline 3:1 at that point, something that mirrors the final scoreline of the first leg.

To the eternal credit of the Senegalese, they never stopped battling which would have impressed their coach. Indeed for long periods in the second half, it was as if the game would end 3:1 or the Senegalese would somehow reduce the deficit with their admirable grit and determination, but it was not to be.

Super sub Joy Jerry jumped for joy when in 89 minutes, she added gloss to the scoreline with an emphatic finish that left the Senegalese stunned.

    4:1 it ended.

In truth, I cannot praise these Falconets too highly. They deserve every accolade that comes their way. It has been an extremely heartwarming, gratifying and uplifting campaign that saw these promising ladies not only qualify for the World Cup, but to also do so in style.

Two goals hero Flourish Sebastine said: “My big motivation is seeing myself at the Under-20 Women’s World Cup and to showcase what we’ve got to win the trophy.”

And all I can say is, ‘all of us Nigeria fans are with you all the way; you’ve got this!’

    Deo…
U are a real lover of the game I commend u.up nest God willing on Tuesday we shall all sing for joy…. Got my ticket already, let’s all storm the stadium ready to scream and shout for our beloved country in other put this loud mouthed neighbors in there place. We move

  • Iheanacho should start from the bench. Our three man midfield should comprise of Aribo (directly behind Osimhen), Bonke and Onyeka. This is the only way we can mitigate and possibly take back control of the midfield from Ghana. I miss Iwobi. He would have done better playing directly behind Osimhen with his eye for passes and scoring as well.
There is no denying, there is pressure, great pressure on SE because of what is at stake, the ever demanding Nigeia fans, and the underdog status of Ghana due to their dismal outing at the last AFCON, and also the consequences of an away goal.

  • JimmyBall 2 years ago

I wish Umeruo or Semi Ajayi will pair Balogun instead of Ekong… That game was lost on Friday against Ghana of not for Balogun… Ekong’s clearance, ball usage and recovery when beaten is hypertensive… I am always scared! Can’t he be benched?

  • Dr Banks 2 years ago

Can you guys imagine Ghana lodging a protest against CAF’s approved 60,000 fans in Abuja stadium? Fear don begin to catch them, looking for something to hang onto.

NFF better make sure that everything is in order and ensure all rules and protocol of CAF governing this match is adhered to strictly otherwise these useless Ghanaian FA will want to win in the boardroom after SE will have snatched their sorry ass on the pitch

    • Ndubest 2 years ago

Just imagine useless country protesting. You guys hasn’t seen nothing. The kind of hostile environment you will meet that basket keeper in last nations cup will be shaking till the end of the match. You guys should thank your God its not Lagos you are coming but i trust the northern supporters to do a great job that day.

    • Bro you are so jobless. I have watched you for a while now and I’m now very sure that you are a psyhco who needs psychiatric care. Because I can’t see what pleasure you’ve been getting from morphing into several identities to disturb the peace in this forum over the past 3-4 years.

I first noticed you and your
style of commenting as Ashy Slashy on this forum some years back. You went missing for a while and returned sometime l8r with two doctor monikers (Dr. Korede oderinde & and another I can’t recall now ‘of the far far better than fame’).

More recently, you go as Igbekun abo to comment here.
You comment as Bobby the fake south African & for about 2 weeks now as a ghanaian named Selfmade & some other strange names posing as ghanaians.

I recognize you irrespective of whatever name & personality you employ because:

1). You have a penchant for attacking & mocking people with a Dr. title attached to their IDs.
2). You use very foul, ‘teenish’ language & swear words in an argument
3). and lastly you always talk about your deep hatred for bullies and how you like to stand up to them which I have always found hypocritical as you exhibit bullish behavior in every morph form you take.

I’m not sure what your deal is but you might need to go see someone for help.
It might be a form of entertainment to you but believe me bro when I tell you it is not ok at all.
Please GROW up and go get help quick.

And for forumites engaging him as a Ghanaian.

Please stop as you are only entertaining a sick sick person.

Thank you my brother @Jace, your intelligence duly unmask this fraud of a guy and a lunatic. That’s why I called him “Smelly Shit” earlier because I knew it was the erstwhile “Igbekun Abo” which translate to “Shit full plate” lol.

I had noticed his way of narratives and also the fact that Igbekun Abo has since disappeared ever since “Selfmade Slave” appeared few weeks ago.

This guy surely needs Psychiatrist help before he becomes full blown SCHIZOPHRENIC.

These bastards with their fake, stolen titles are wonderful haha

Very soon this dick sucking son of ghetto bitch ll drop that STOLEN DR TITLE haha

For all u know, if we asked him to bring his ssce certificate he ll sell us a story that it has been stolen in BOKOM land haha

  • Igbekun Abo 2 years ago

Wonders shall never cease. Selfmade Ghanaian bitch is now the honourable Igbekun Omo Abo… Lolzzzz…… Man pickin rest him case.
As for you Dr Banks, I will take the high road today. Later, you and I will renew our rivalry. Aribaaaaa! Heaven bless Super Eagles players.

  • Please, let us try and lower the temperature a little bit. In the final analysis, this is still a football match, regardless. As for the calls for Mr. Augustine Eguavoen to be fired after the Ghana game and hire a foreign coach, my question is this, so Nigerian players could play this game at the highest level but couldn’t coach it at the highest level? Kind of baffles me. As for the game on Tuesday, I would advise the coaches to play three natural mid-fielders at least to match the Ghanaians in that department. I’m aware it might hamper us a little bit offensively, but I would rather take my chances on penalty-kicks than concede at home. By the way, Ghana’s coach Mr. Otto Addo was right; the pressure is squarely on us.
