Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong concedes the club wanted to sell him to Manchester United or Chelsea over the summer.
In a chat with El Pais the Dutch international, who recently extended his contract until 2029, stated that during Barcelona’s recent financial crisis, some figures at the club wanted him gone to raise funds.

“There was a moment when some people at the club wanted to sell me to raise money. I think it was in the summer of 2023 or 2022, I don’t remember exactly,” De Jong told El País.
“I always knew I wanted to stay at Barcelona. I’ve always been happy to play here.
“I was a player with a transfer window, but I had clear ideas: I wanted to stay, and I knew that, if I was healthy, I would play. When you have a contract, if you want to stay, you stay. That’s why I wasn’t afraid.”
